I speed on motorways ...but try not to in built up areas.

Is this a thread about a thread?

I do speed on motorways, but not in other areas, specially in residential strets or near schools - I'm always very careful there, like most parents I would think?

I do. It's so easy to sneak up to 33, 35, 37.

I only asked because you souned hugely defensive about the question - which seemed unlikely if there was no "history" IYSWIM?

I haven't read the Xfactor thread...

well I know a LOT of perfectly normal peopel speed - and often get caught( hence i see em)

I don't (well didn't when I had a car).

I know a lot of people in RL that do though and it seems quite common.

I think they're arrogant bastards personally. It's the whole 'but it's ok for me to speed I am more important/in a rush/better driver than everyone else'.

Arrogant fuckwits.

Jedward · 15/11/2009 16:12

you see that attitude ,while being correct, is just something i dont ever hear in rl.

My car wouldn't know speed if it sneaked up and slapped it.

I do, on occasion, and recently got snapped (58mph in a 50 zone). 3 points on license and £60 fine. Two weeks later I got snapped going through a red light (honestly, not as terrible as it sounds but I won't make excuses 'cause that won't me look good). Another 3 points and another £60 fine.

It's not something I'm proud of and the points and fines are doing their job with me- making me think twice and drive more carefully.

Perhaps the average MNer is less likely to speed than the average motorist in general? I think parents are maybe more responsible/aware than some motorists - young men who think they are indestructible for instance.

I speed on motorways, I do aim for 70 but don't worry if it slides up to 75, I do then tend to correct. DH tends to aim for closer to 80, I would wear a fine if we got caught, thems the breaks.

Quite happy to be overtaken by people going faster, some of the best drivers I know like to go fast and I feel quite safe with them.

Don't speed in residential areas.

Luuuuuuuuuurve the Autobahn, awesome doing 160km/hour and being overtaken like you are not even moving. Nothing better than a wide open road and a powerful engine!

TheArmadillo · 15/11/2009 16:16

I disagree AMIS - I think it's just as common with parents as with anyone else.

I have 3 points (33 in a 30 zone ) but that was three plus years ago and I'm much slower now. I do go too fast on motorways sometimes. Up to 78 - never more than that.

Autobahn pretty hair-raising when you haven't got a powerful engine though . Feel like you're being pushed along.
