Can someone please tell me exactly what's going to happen in the next year, 10 years, 20 years?

I mean please someone tell me EXACTLY how shit things are going to be.

I must be missing something because everyone seems to know exactly what position we're all going to be in in 1, 5, 10, 20 year plus, and I don't.

How can we be certain on what will happen when we haven't even left yet?

Watching - as everyone seems to think everything is going to go to pot but how do they actually know?

It's like the value of the pound is already going back up so that wasn't really a disaster was it!

Ooh, that's very passive aggressive.

Nobody actually knows. Because so much depends on unpredictable factors like the outcome of negotiations with other countries, who the next PM is and what policies they pursue. Plus other variables like when the next General Election is and who wins or if their is a new Scottish referendum and the result. And even if Brexit goes ahead and article 50 is invoked as everything stands.

Anybody who claims to know what's going to happen is lying. And I suspect some of the doom mongers are way off the mark.

Yes probably was a bit passive aggressive but I'm sick and tired of people acting like they know it all.

I don't know it all. I don't know what's going to happen, I don't know what economic position we will be in in 10 years time.

I want some facts of the people who do!

Oh and if it all does go to shit - I will be the first to admit that I made the wrong decision with my vote believe me.

I am not scared of admitting that I was wrong - but I think 24 hours is a little soon to do that Wink

Right with you OP! I love how people that didn't even vote in the last GE and have no clue what a bond, stock or share is are spouting stuff about the markets on Facebook. Bless em.

Can you really not see that no longer being a part of the EU that gives you cheap food, cheap clothes, cheap holidays etc is going to change your day to day life?

Everyone's entitled to an opinion whether they know what's going on or not.

But it's when they start passing their opinions off as facts that pisses me off, no matter how educated they are.

Diggers

I see that it could happen of course...

Please tell me how you know it will definitely happen, when it is likely to start happening?

Today? Tomorrow? Next year?

We haven't even left yet! Some people are even saying we won't leave and are likely to renegotiate with the EU.

I don't know whether any of this is true, so I'm not claiming anything to be a fact.

If you absolutely know what's going to happen I am happy to hear it.

I can see what could happen, what might happen, what is a possibility for the future, but what I really want to know is what WILL happen,

I don't think anyone can tell me that right now can they?

I personally think we will go into recession soon because recessions are often triggered by fear. If the consumer is uncertain about their job or their bills/costs potentially rising, the consumer will rein in their spending. Which is bad for the economy. Same with house buying. Buyer concerned that house prices will fall, buyer will be reluctant to purchase. That's all I can see into the future!

We will stop getting things cheaply. The pound has plunged. It might not affect the rich and middle class and those who are working or in a good position, but the poor will be hit hardest. We already have children living in poverty and need food banks...what do you think will happen to these people?

Sometimes voting means looking at those below you're level and thinking about your fellow citizens. I'm appalled at the selfish voters who've put our country in this position. I'm afraid we'll see a rise in poverty...

Report
ImperialBlether · 25/06/2016 09:29

Well, at the moment you and your children have the right to live in any of 27 different countries, with reciprocal arrangements for health care. That has to be a benefit, doesn't it?

Many, many areas have benefited from European money. Liverpool has been rebuilt as a result of this money. Wales and Cornwall have been in the news because they receive such a lot of money from Europe and yet voted leave - apparently they believed that they would continue to receive that money as less would go out to Europe. They're in for a massive shock.

Who wants to be isolated? We won't even have Scotland and NI soon, from the look of it. We will be this tiny country with nobody there to back us in difficult times.

Boris Johnson said that we would become major, powerful players in Europe. I think he hadn't had enough sleep when he said that - it's absolute nonsense.

How do you know what my financial position is? Confused

I might be a multimillionaire I wish or I might be absolutely skint, or I might be somewhere in between.

I wouldn't say my vote was selfish.

When you say we will stop getting things cheaply - when? Tomorrow? Next week?

The markets hate uncertainty, and that's exactly what the leave vote has created.

Not knowing what comes next is the worst possible scenario - and doubt becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy as decisions are shelved, so investments aren't made, which starts job losses, which makes people more uncertain and less likely to move house, for example, so everything stagnates and spirals downwards, gaining momentum as it goes

I voted remain, and fully expected a slight majority to do the same, but never mind I'm sure BoJo and Farage have got it all covered

Already - the pound is already worth less

Nobody knows.

The only thing that seems sure is that the division and hatred between the opposing sides is getting worse even though the referendum is over - something that I think will damage he country far more than brexit (and I am a remainer).

Anyway here is my pure speculation; not a great deal will actually change for many members of the U.K. in the long term. In the short term, people will lose jobs and house prices will slump however I think this will be very short term and a knee-jerk reaction (cold comfort for those losing their jobs and homes though).

The price of goods will increase slightly; house prices will stabilise. We will still have EU migrants, just like we still have non-Eu migrants and people will still work in the EU, just like people work in non-eu countries.

It's happened, I'd rather it didn't, but I'd rather stop arguing about whether we should be in or out or who lied to who, and pull together to ensure that the government know what people want post brexit Britain to look like,

milkyface · 25/06/2016 09:37

imperial I see what you're saying and I understand why you voted remain, and I understand that a lot of leave votes were based on lies and false beliefs but it still doesn't explain how everyone knows that leaving definitely will go tits up.

In a few days time petrol prices will rise. Oil is sold in dollars. The oil price overall fell but not enough to mitigate sterling's fall against the dollar.

As PPs have said, uncertainty is a self-fulfilling prophecy in terms of financial markets. So of course in a way you're right, no-one can see into the future. But in another very real way, the fact that we have no insight at all at this stage means that everything will probably go to shit, at least in the short-medium term, EVEN IF the underlying factors are positive.

Some people know that the odds are their company will move either with or without them. The first jobs moves have already been announced.

No one knows how many will be affected. But once it gets to a certain level then this will affect people in jobs which service those companies from cleaners to local coffee shops.

When companies are looking to relocate/open a new office there is one less reason to choose the UK (or what is left of it).

Now this won't be too bad for Cameron or Osborne OR Farage or Johnson - they are wealthy enough to ride out a financial storm - or can move overseas if they choose.

OP the truth is no one knows. We can try to model likely outcomes using the evidence available but no one can say for certain what will happen. I think based on the economists view it is probable that we will enter recession at least in the short term. I think it is also probable that the renegotiated trade deals will see freedom of movement remain. I think we may also see high inflation and a devalued pound. However these are predictions not facts.

I don't know what will happen but speaking from someone who knows the current political situation and sentiment where I am, NI will remain part of the UK and the UK will need to fork out to fill the large gap in funding previously filled by the EU.

You can't ask for facts about things that haven't happened yet. The truth is, no-one on either side knows now, or knew before the result, exactly how things would pan out for us, whether we stayed or went. Nothing has changed there. We can only guess, forecast and plan. And the same would have been true if the result had been to Remain, albeit it easier to forecast.
