AIBU?

to think the mayo in a jar is different from the mayo in squeezy tubes?

It's just different isn't it? The squeezy stuff is nice and creamy and looks tasty. The the stuff in a jar just sits there looking at you, like it knows it's going to be a disappointment.

DH disagrees, but I am pregnant so he is getting squeezy mayo just for me.
He think's I'm picky, AIBU to want delicious creamy mayo on my chips instead of the imposter that is jar mayo?

Is it? Otherwise the same brand and fat level (normal, light, extra light).

We have a bit of a mayo mountain at the moment, with some of Aldi's full fat in a jar and squeezy on the go, so I am going to do a compare and contrast.

Could it be that you like the presentation of squeezy rather than a spooned dollop?

I didn't know it came in a squeezy tube! That would be much handier than a jar! misses point of thread entirely

It's the same stuff in our house as Dh decants the stuff from the jar into the sneezy bottle

Nooooo, I hate the squeezy tubes, they don't actually squeeze and you end up with a load of Mayo you can't get out or you cut your fingers off trying to cut it open. You have been warned Smile

Great autocorrect Squeezy

I'm of the opposite opinion.
The jar looks fresh and creamy.
The squeezy tube looks stale, plus you can never get it all out. Grin

at the thought of sneezy mayo!

Tesco own brand squeezes fine, never have too much mayo though. Full fat all the way.

Squeezy mayo is always a disappointment. Hard to squeeze the further down you get and no way of getting the last one out. I always buy a jar and spoon it.

The only difference is that those squeezy bottles are fucking infuriating to use.

But why is mayo in a jar, all other condiment type sauces come in bottles? Clearly it's superior! ignores mn consensus and considers flouncing Grin

Cos it's thick, it's not meant to run through a squeezy tube.

I'm horrified. Shock The jar is clearly vastly superior. Squeezy is all well and good until you get near the end and then it's farty and you have to put effort into getting your mayo. [angry[

Not sure about Mayo but Coke is different from a can than a bottle IMO.

I'm another who thinks the stuff in the jar is better. Not sure how or why, but it is.

You tried it in the glass bottles? Apparently they use different recipes depending on the container. Maybe an urban myth. Off to snopes now.

Hmmm, given other people clearly have preferences on mayo containers that aren't limited to ease of use I reckon there's something to them tasting different.

Squeezy is creamier and greasier. Jar stuff is almost wobbly on a spoon. Bottle stuff on a spoon would never wobble.

Yep, the jar stuff has a touch of blancmange about it.

Stuff in the jar is better. The squeezy tube looks cool and seems like a good idea but the consistency is all wrong and the tube is a bastard to get the mayo out at the bottom. I am going to have to do a taste test when we get back to the UK* because I am convinced that the actual mayonnaise is different - it is a different consistency on the plate or the sandwich.

*am in the home of tubeless mayo - it is all in jars here, even the divine Miracle Whip which is like mayonnaise crack. Grin

I would go for the stuff in the jar if I could choose.

I buy which ever one is on offer and is cheaper, not noticed taste difference. When the squeezy bottle is running low, before I squeeze it I shake it to the bottom.

It's nicer from a jar, unless it's kewpie of course, I love that stuff

Oh much prefer the jar stuff, the squeezy bottles are so annoying at the end!!!

They do taste different, on that point you are correct.

However - jar mayo is far superior to squeezy mayo.

But, only Hellmans will do!

I keep trying other brands to see if I can swap to a cheaper version but it's false economy to buy anything but!

The squeezy bottles are annoying but more hygienic. I find that people my sons put their crumb covered knives in them when making a sandwich.
