Details on the incident in question are pretty light but his continuation at the BBC should be based on what happened in this case.

Either way I doubt Clarkson will give a shit. If they do sack him then I'm sure ITV or Sky will pay him more to start a rival show that will be as successful as top gear - so when you sign your petition bear in mind that if it had any effect (doubtful) your probably helping the subject of your wrath get a pay rise....

If he really did hit a producer and the BBC keep him on regardless, they should be ashamed. It would be akin to the attitude that lay behind Jimmy Saville getting away with things for so long: different rules for famous people. I wonder if the people signing the petition to keep him have considered it in that light?

No. The counter argument is that it is a "fracas" and that what happened is "alleged," but that hasn't stopped umpteen silly buggers signing a petition to keep him before knowing what happened.

Imagine the reverse: AIBU to start va petition to keep Jeremy C whatever. He has allegedly hit a producer, but he's very witty and I love his show. Ok, there was that incident when he said that racist nursery rhyme, but he really didn't want to. And the other incidents when...... And alright, he us on a warning, but he's Jeremy C so they have to keep him.

I agree with the comment about Jimmy Saville. Jeremy C's actions per se are not comparable, but that the person has gotten bigger than their actions such that he can do no wrong is not right, and should be stopped.

And if he us snapped up by someone else be that as it may. This reputation of the BBC is at stake.

I agree granny-if I assaulted someone at work i would be out of a job. Why should he get away with the things he does just because he makes a lot of money for the BBC. It is this attitude which fosters the idea that famous people have a different set of rules to the rest of us, and there are so many examples at the moment of how far that can go if unchecked. do we never learn

If at the end of a day I was working and the conditions of my employment was such that a hot meal was to be provided and it wasn't, I wouldn't be too pleased (would not hit anyone though!). However if I complained and was told that 'a fat bastard like you doesn't need feeding' I'd be very inclined to smack them one ( I probably wouldn't in real life, but at the end of a bad day, who knows ).

The point is it's unreasonable to call for him to be sacked whilst an investigation is still in progress and the full details of what happened are unknown.

The BBC have done the right thing in suspending him but these petitions to either cull or keep are based on what you think about Clarkson as a person and/or presenter and not on any facts about the incident and thus totally unreasonable in my view.

If he did assault someone it's a matter for the police and if the bbc decided to retain him after that then it wouldn't be unreasonable to petition for his dismissal in that case. Right now it's both premature and a bit silly.

There are plenty of people in this world, for example the ones who kidnapped those schoolgirls, much more deserving of all the frothing fury and name-calling being directed at JC.

We none of us know the truth about this incident and shouldn't start making assumptions. I think it's utterly pointless to start signing petitions one way or the other. It won't make one jot of difference to him if he is sacked as ITV and Sky will be falling over themselves to sign him up.

I work in a school. If I used racist language (and I believe JC has done so twice now), or punched a colleague, I'd be out.

Top gear is clarkson. Yabu. Agree with icimoi we dont know whats going on and sounds like bbc doesnt like clarkson so im not signing either way although if i had a choice it be the other way!

If the description of what happened above is accurate, he's pretty thin skinned for an anti PC warrior who tells it like it is, is only joking and believes other people should lighten up.
