Or am I being anal? My children say so. I don't think I am, but I need support from the MN jury. How could the clock go on one end? That would be wrong.
Right now it goes plant, photo frame, photo frame, CLOCK, photo frame, body sort of sculpture thing, flowers.
But clock in the middle. Yes?!

It has to be in the middle
Just the thought that it might not be, has set me on edge.

Bang in the middle
<hides tape measure>
Depends entirely on the size of the clock and the other ornaments.
But YANBU about mantlepiece OCD. I used to have a set of coloured votives which went in the order of the spectrum, and the; ex would deliberately mix them up.
Hence why he's now the ex.
Oooo, I'm all for the clock in the middle, but your mantle still seems a little lopsided to me!
Mine goes, candle stick ornament, clock, ornament, candle stick. All nice and symetrical!
OCD ishoos? Me? Never!

The middle, always the middle. YANBU
Yes, of course.
I very much want a mantle clock atm. A ticking one, with a good loud tick.

I've never thought about this but yes. The one at my mums is, at PILs, at my nans and my DPs nans. They are all in the middle.

Mine is in the middle, but I think a clock could look very nice on one side, depending what else was on there.
It could go on one side as long as it was slightly angled. So the back of it formed a triangle with the wall and side of the mantlepiece, iyswim. If it was full face on it would be Wrong Wrong Wrong.
It could only go middle or very edge. Not halfway between the two.
I believe this is mine.
<takes Anal crown>
<polishes it with lint free cloth, in small clockwise circles>
You couldn't have everything piled up one end, and nothing the other.
would be wrong.
It's all about balance.
With the clock in the middle.

Having said that, mine is in the middle and I nudge it by millimetres if it isn't lined up with the centre of the curtain pole above it!
But I can imagine a mantelpiece, with the right clock, that would look good with it fartfully placed towards one end.
Definitely the middle. With things balanced on either side.
If my clock is so much as moved an inch - it troubles me.
I have symmetry ishoos
Hecate! No, no, NO, not on the edge?!
No to triangles
No angles
No to life on the edge!!
In the middle. Anywhere else would keep me awake at night.
It has to go in the middle. Unless you had two identical ones, then you could put one at each end...........
It depends on the height of it relative to other things. I always think the tallest thing has to go in the middle, rather than what it actually is.
Of course, you could stick two loooong candle sticks on each end, but that's it when it comes to meddling with the height order of mantlepiece arrangements.
Doesn't that make the mantelpiece look like an altar though headfairy?
<own mantelpiece has clock in centre (obviously) and an array of photos, football trophies and cat ornaments>
I beg to disagree - cos my flowers are lilies and very tall, so they are on the end. They'd look daft in the middle.....

I actually feel quite ill worrying that there are clocks out there off centre. Perhaps there could be a MN campaign?
Two identical clocks.......
