DD ate all the grapes before purchase. The checkout assistant actually held up the remains before scanning and said 'What is this?' in a very disapproving voice. All that was left was a plastic bag, a stalk, and few squashed half grapes.Blush

But even worse than that, I LOST my shopping list half way around. We went back to search but it was nowhere to be found. I have to admit in all honesty that it had 'nice ham' written on it!Blush

I am mortified.

:o - especially at nice ham

Carrotsandcelery · 07/05/2011 16:41

Grin What did they do?

worraliberty · 07/05/2011 16:41

So how did you manage to pay for the grapes? Don't they have to be weighed?

FannyPriceless · 07/05/2011 16:42

Oh yes, sold by weight.Blush Should I hand in my Nectar card and surrender myself to the authorities now?

FannyPriceless · 07/05/2011 16:43

I have just gone and had a look at the receipt. Obviously the stalk must weight something as i had been charged £0.06 for it!

OP posts:
HecateQueenOfTheNight · 07/05/2011 16:44

so you didn't pay for them?

You do realise that's stealing, don't you?

yer going daaaahn mate.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 07/05/2011 16:45

She weighed the stalk?? :o

FannyPriceless · 07/05/2011 16:45

...must weigh something as I have been...

(So mortified I am forgetting how to type.Confused)

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 07/05/2011 16:45

it's only stealing if she deliberately didn't pay for them.

the cashier didn't charge for them - that's different.

Just out of interest - if they're sold by weight, and they've been eaten, how could the cashier charge for them?

nickelbabe · 07/05/2011 16:48

she could have called the manager for a second opinion, or got another bunch that was roughly the same size as the one OP got.

I personally would have called the manager to ask for opinion.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 07/05/2011 16:49

The only way would have been to get another bag and take your chances. It may cost slightly (or less) more than the original bag would have but them's the breaks.

I can't believe she weighed the stalk!

Grin at peabody.

It was only some grapes - supermarkets make enough profit!

TheFlyingOnion · 07/05/2011 16:53

Exit oooh, not really the point though is it??

FannyPriceless · 07/05/2011 16:53

I guess that's what must have happened - she weighed the stalk. To be honest, at that point I was so distracted trying to pack bags, hold a bottle for DS, shush DD from yelling 'I need a WEE WEE!' and phone DH to say I was running late that I wasn't paying much attention.

And to be fair, it was a really small bunch of grapes!

I can't believe we are having the eating-grapes-at-supermarket argument all over again - I am actually more embarassed that someone is currently laughing over my 'nice ham' lost shopping list.

OP posts:
Journey · 07/05/2011 16:54

It's wrong what you let you DD do. You sound more mortified that you lost your shopping list than let you DD eat unpaid for goods. A bit odd.

gkys · 07/05/2011 16:55

Grin i am so glad its not just me.

ExitPursuedByALamb · 07/05/2011 16:55

TheFlyingOnion - No I know, but I don't think Fanny should beat herself up about it. And the cashier could have done something about it if they were that bothered.

Fanny - what are you going to do with your 6p stalk?

I don't let my children eat anything when going round the supermarket that needs to be paid for by weight - I don't want to teach them how to steal. Am very Shock

HecateQueenOfTheNight · 07/05/2011 16:56

You think this is the eating grapes at the supermarket argument?

are you nuts?

You still have skin on your back, don't you?

This is not the eating grapes at the supermarket thread until you have been flayed alive. Grin

  • oh, and exit - supermarkets don't pay for stuff like that out of profits, they put their prices up so that we all pay more to cover losss through theft, breakages and munching
