Give me a non alcoholic drink that isn’t awful

Just that - got to attend various barbecues etc at the weekend where everyone else will be drinking except me. What can I drink? Non alcoholic wine is awful. Tried nozzeco and hated it, thought about non alcoholic gin but it’s the same price as the real thing so would need to be worth it!

any other ideas? Zero beer is ok but I can’t drink more than one.

thanks!

I'd stick with fruit juice or mocktails. You won't really get anything which replicates alcohol.

Homemade lemonade is lovely too

Wolfparty · 22/08/2023 14:25

I like kombucha and also like a lot of the fever tree flavoured tonics or ginger beer. Are you specifically looking for a non alcoholic version of an alcoholic drink?

Ilikeviognier · 22/08/2023 14:26

Kind of yes. But as you say, maybe it’s not really doable!

Trip. The green one

Thatchers zero cider is really nice, and hits the mark well for bbq.

I like a non alcoholic mojito as the lime and mint are nice and sharp. There is a Robinsons lime and mint cordial which is lovely made up with fizzy water

rosemarypetticoat · 22/08/2023 14:30

One of the posh tonic waters, with lots of ice - there's a rhubarb one that's pleasant but can't remember the name. As a bonus, people think I'm having a G&T so don't get hassle to have a drink.

Merapi · 22/08/2023 14:32

I drink Gordon's non-alcoholic gin and it tastes exactly the same as the real thing. Highly recommended. Fever Tree tonics are lovely, they do several flavours. Make it all into a long drink with ice and bits of fruit, and away you go.

RitzyMcFitzy · 22/08/2023 14:33

Cawston Press rhubarb is nice and fizzy but not overly sweet.

faban · 22/08/2023 14:33

The Gordon's zero alcohol is really nice and about a £10.. the rest are lovely but yeah I hate paying the swme amount as I would be for alcoholic gin.

NA beer is good too

I love that Robinsond mojito stuff I need to get more as I only drink it when I pregnant! Will give it thatchers ago too!

mosiacmaker · 22/08/2023 14:36

The Gordon’s 0% is so good! With a nice fever tree Mediterranean tonic and lemon you genuinely don’t notice the difference. Plus you can free pour!

lljkk · 22/08/2023 14:37

No children there?
What's wrong with soda pop or fruit juice or fizzy water.

EmmaMY · 22/08/2023 14:37

If you like champagne, then Odd Bird do both a blond and a rose one that are really nice. Have tried plenty of non alcoholic stuff and thin they are all really bad, apart from these ones!
buy them off Amazon!

OnTheTuftedWilton · 22/08/2023 14:38

Another saying Gordon's 0%, if on offer can usually get for £10. Haven't tried the other zero gins

Ilikeviognier · 22/08/2023 14:39

Thanks all. I did wonder about the zero gin but given that most other fake booze Isn’t nice, I was very skeptical!

It depends why you're off the sauce.

I like Martini Vibrante (PP linked above) with tonic water and a slice of orange.
Or tonic by itself with ice and garnish
Or lucky Saint beer
Or Lyres or Zeno non-Alcoholic wine.
(Check out Club Soda on instagram/web).

If not pregnant, you could try Sentia, or Botivo which Grace Dent raved about in the paper this weekend.

I discovered Pentire at the weekend! I'm currently pregnant and miss wine so much but none of the non-alcoholic stuff is worth it.

I really like this stuff and am going to get more to have in the house, even when I'm not pregnant - it's that good!

I have been drinking Crodino recently, it's an alcohol free aperativo in the same ownership as campari. Stocked in at least Sainsbury's and Waitrose I think.
You can drink as is or mix with tonic.
Also, non alcoholic fizz differs, I took the freixenet rose to a BBQ at the weekend and whilst not the same it was pretty acceptable.

Ilikeviognier · 22/08/2023 14:43

Not pregnant. Taking antibiotics (metronidazole).

I agree with both of them , I also like Stowford press and Sheeply ciders

Strokethefurrywall · 22/08/2023 14:44

I make non-Alc margaritas using Ritual 0% and some LMNT lemon habanero electrolytes mix. Either that or Ritual G&T and when I'm back in Uk in a couple weeks I'm going to try the Gordon's 0% pink gin which I'm excited for.

Other than that, I'm a super freak for Three Spirits elixirs which are non-all but give a lovely buzz from the adaptogens.

I usually stick with Le Croix water unless I'm out for a big event, and will usually drink Heineken zero if I'm not drinking cocktails.

LateSummerLobelia · 22/08/2023 14:44

My favourite drink ever is belvoir ginger cordial with either tonic or ginger ale and crushed mint. Not sweet.

LetMeGoogleThat · 22/08/2023 14:47

A lovely tonic, with all the ice and lemon.....hardly miss the gin 😋
