If any LSE alumni on here feel like penning a complaint... How can this be acceptable in an academic paper?

"“If TERFs think trans* is an endemic threat to feminism, let us be the threat to feminism…

Picture this: I hold a knife to your throat and spit my transness into your ear. Does that turn you on? Are you scared? I sure fucking hope so.”

Matt Thompson, LSE GENDER STUDIES MSc STUDENT"

I'm pretty speechless.

To quote JK Rowling:

"...now hundreds of trans activists have threatened to beat, rape, assassinate and bomb me I’ve realised that this movement poses no risk to women whatsoever."

ferretface · 26/07/2021 15:13

I went to LSE, left with a first class degree in law and unlike these muppets actually understand logic and how to reason. Will happily put my name to a complaint.

Well as a straight out sexual fantasy based on assault, that needs reporting directly to the police. There couldn't be much more of a red flag.

Redapplewreath · 26/07/2021 15:46

Reading more of the Twitter thread, I see it has been multiply tweeted to police and to Priti Patel.

I can’t say I’m surprised by this. As a gender studies student I recognise that it’s never been more fashionable to outwardly and openly hate women.
It’s celebrated and encouraged in fact.

DevonTF · 26/07/2021 15:57

I have tweeted to the Home Office / The Met etc. Marion Millar gets to appear in court over a tweet of the suffragettes ribbon. And yet this is acceptable as academia ? Nope. This is a serious threat. The mask is slipping.

yourhairiswinterfire · 26/07/2021 15:59

Both sides though, right?

Can you imagine if a woman joked about holding a knife to a trans persons throat? There would be hell to fucking pay, quite rightly.

But threats of sexual violence against women are perfectly fine, as long as you dehumanise the woman by calling her a TERF first Hmm

What a massive red flag this vile person is. It's about time the police started taking this shit seriously before a woman is seriously harmed by one of these extremists.

This was a conference paper. Imagine being a woman survivor of violence and hearing this paper. And then hearing it applauded.

This thread appears in the Sex and Gender topic next to: ‘Speaker’s Corner: woman attacked with knife’

Tesla73 · 26/07/2021 16:08

Wonder if he'll post his amazing piece of work to his linkedin so prospective employers can see what a class act he is

Jorriss · 26/07/2021 16:08

Wtf???

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/07/2021 16:12

It’ll probably appear in a 5 star gender studies journal. Does Sally Hines edit anything at the moment?

Seriously, as things stand it won’t stop him getting a lecturing job. There was a violent misogynist in a Facebook group the other day saying JK Rowling ought to have her mouth sewn up. Someone looked him up and he is a lecturer at Liverpool University.

Tesla73 · 26/07/2021 16:16

I saw in the paper yesterday that the woman who set up the Open University GC forum has been off sick for weeks due to the death threats she has been receiving.

On a hopeful note though the boss of OU said he isnt taking the forum down

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/07/2021 16:17

One of the many appalling aspects of this is that two other students using the names Alice and Chrissie have praised this. If they are natal females, what on earth has gone wrong that they respond to a threat of sexualised violence like this with words like these?

The speaker has a very privileged grammar school type accent, and seems from the little pic the standard white boy type. There are lots of people in 2021 that need education to improve their life opportunities. LSE’s resources seem somewhat wasted here?

Did he get reported? I retain some small hope that universities would take reputational damage seriously. I'll do it if necessary.
Igmum · 26/07/2021 16:31

What on earth is this? I'm torn between thinking we are missing an enormous amount of context then realising that pretty much nothing could justify that. Did that person seriously get an MSc from the LSE for that? This is insane. Well done to the women on Twitter who reported him. I seriously want to see him charged

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/07/2021 16:32

GaspOde - I think someone in the group where I saw it will have done.

yourhairiswinterfire · 26/07/2021 16:37

Looks like the Baroness is on it, too.

How very dare you!!!

“The author identifies as “genderfuck” (a form of non-binary).

sex-matters.org/posts/the-workplace/gender-studies-and-sexualised-threats/

He is staging a live experiment in queering the boundaries of violent threats. Mapping the liminal spaces between trans teflon coating and a criminal record.

Sadly, I think at the moment a criminal record for death threats against t*erfs would be a real boost on genderfuckselfs CV.

upthefrogs · 26/07/2021 16:43

Quite apart from the threatening and misogynistic language, I must say also ... the rest of the paper is nonsense. I think they have got a little carried away with some rather extravagant purple prose.

PronounssheRa · 26/07/2021 16:45

Police in the UK are starting to take incel extremism very seriously. Just saying
