So as we are about to embark into 2024 and our year of fabulousness time for a new thread.

I’m going to begin in earnest next week when the gym is back open but I’m not eating as much this week and mucking out every day for fitness . Weirdly I’ve gone off sweet stuff, long may it last

I started yesterday. 22lb to lose to return to 140lb. I'm usually fairly static with weight, but gained recently after covid complications meant I was sofa bound and waiting for scary health news. I'm not good at losing slow and steady, I need to hit the weight loss hard and then I'll maintain once its off. 1200 cals a day, mostly huel with extra water mixed in though the day, with a 200 cal pile of veg and gravy (or something similar) in the evenings.

Happierwithouthim · 28/12/2023 17:42

@Lavenderosemary I don't think I could be as hardcore as you.

I lost 32.9lbs in the last 12 months, if I could lose 28lbs more that would take me to 10st well 9st13.75lbs & I would be ecstatic. For my health more so than appearance is my priority.

My goal is to get back running

Life is it because there's so much sweet stuff around?

Byebyefattum · 28/12/2023 17:52

I think Im starting with peri menopause ( am 43) as the weight has piled on over the last 3 mths and I’ve not been doing anything different. I suspect I can’t get away with stuff as much these days 😭
nailed the not drinking by being TT ( am recovering alcoholic 15 yrs in). Nailed the exercise as I love the feeling do CrossFit 3-4 times a week. But I bloody LOVE chocolate/ crisps/ cream/ icecream and bread with LOADS of butter. Now I know I have willpower but holy mc moly changing my diet feels a bit impossible at the moment! Don’t get me wrong. I do eat healthily I just then have a huge layer of absolute shite on top! I eat when stressed or unhappy, which has been better than drinking but is becoming a problem in itself as I age.

plan is…..high protein, no crap, 1300 cal a day and to get organised. Plan 2 weeks and then when I get some traction drop to planning a week in advance………

good luck everyone. I fee ok about it now and looking forward to it but when I go back to work I worry I’ll be frazzled and just eating any old shite again.

id like to hear any insights anyone has for staying off the sugar/ bad stuff!!

Byebyefattum · 28/12/2023 17:56

Oh and I’ve ordered a whole host of vitamins to take and Tupperware to prep meals in.

now I just need to do it….

LadyGwendoline · 28/12/2023 18:12

Can I join you? 2024 is going to be a year of gentle life changes I hope, losing weight and gaining fitness is a vital goal in all of it. I’d like to lose 3 stone. Have bought an exercise bike and want to up my steps too - at least on days children are at school.

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/12/2023 18:46

I can’t maintain low calories. 1600 is as low as I can go as I’m hypoglycaemic.

i hear you on the decent diet and loads of shite. I just have to not have it or buy it. Moderation doesn’t work.

you know what happier I think it’s a stress thing as I’m just not at the minute. Will see after work tomorrow

Welcome @Lavenderosemary - that is super hard core!! do you find Huel ok, I’ve always wondered what it is like!

@Byebyefattum well done you for being TT, that’s such a massive achievement. Booze is a big part of my weight issues, I have an inflammatory condition which is made worse by it but I find it hard to give up completely even though I rarely drink to excess.

happier you’ve done brilliantly already - amazing progress in 2023.

Byebyefattum · 29/12/2023 09:54

@Gensola thanks, that’s kind of you. Tbh most of the time these days I don’t miss it. Just every now and again. However, I think I have been using sweets/ choc like lots of people use alcohol - as and end of the day reward/ wind down/ stress helper. Which hasn’t been too bad until I hit 43!

managed 24hrs with no shite yesterday 💪 pacing myself and keeping it in the day 😂

good luck everyone - have a successful day x

Lavenderosemary · 29/12/2023 11:07

@gensola I like it, it's a bit marmite as some do, some don't. It's handy as I can be hungry, glug a huel in 20 seconds and forget about eating for several hours. There's also a hot n savoury version...a healthy pot noodle effectively. I'll have some of that with a mountain of veg and enjoy it (again, this would be some people's nightmare food!). All the huel is extremely easy, convenient, filling and healthy. As far as taste goes...dubious!

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/12/2023 12:58

I looked at huel as the people who had our house didn’t cancel after they moved. Sadly was coffee flavour 🤢

might look at meal replacement for lunches as that’s a struggle for me

I was 164lb on Wednesday, 159 and a bit lb today. Beginners loss I know, but makes me feel encouraged. I did a brutal wardrobe sort out yesterday. I plan to be not minimal, but just one or two steps up from that. I threw away everything tatty (even if i wa fond of it), everything I just don't wear AND all my elasticated waist jeans and leggings as I use these as a way to avoid acknowledging that I'm putting weight on. Only old fashioned zip and button jeans for me going forward. Wish my poor squished tummy luck until i lose more!

Happierwithouthim · 31/12/2023 10:46

Great start @Lavenderosemary
Need to do a wardrobe recce for myself & dc in next few days.

lifelongfrugaleer · 31/12/2023 16:34

Still a great start lavender.

Happy new year all!
my skirt feels snug - it was loose a few weeks ago! On my way to America for work, the hotel has a gym so will be back to my routine if humanly possible between work meetings.

MaryGreenhill · 01/01/2024 21:34

Safe journey @Gensola Flowers

Puffalicious · 01/01/2024 21:47

Hey all,

I'm tentatively coming to chat.

I've put on 2.5 stone in the last 1.5/2 years & it's creeping on & on. I'm so unhappy- nothing fits & i look in the mirror & don't recognise myself.

I'm 52, newly on HRT & genuinely feel like I don't eat that much- absolutely confirmed by DH (he never puts on weight). I'm pescatarian & struggle to stay off the cards, but I must.

Plan:
IF (11am-6pm only)
2 main meals & an 11am high protein snack.
Cut most carbs.
As little sugar as I can.
Use MFP to chart calories.
Get back to fitness - swimming/ walking
Really want to start weights- I've heard the right programme can be great for weight loss & strength at my age- any advice gratefully received.

I haven't much time (2 DC, youngest is 12 & has significant ASN so takes up lots of time).

I weighed this morning , cried: 13st 7 lbs 5ft 6 . But I need to do this, I must.

lifelongfrugaleer · 02/01/2024 08:08

Hey puff. Honestly I would introduce one of this a week. If you are really time pressed trying to do all will be quite overwhelming. (Voice of experience).

safe travels Gen

no gym today but will walk to the station 45 minutes walk to earn my girlie lunch and cocktails.

i begin in earnest tomorrow
