You have 8 pairs of shoes. What are they?

Our shoe storage is ridiculous so I've decided to try and limit myself to one half of the shoe cabinet, which takes 8 pairs of winter shoes. Boots don't fit in there so I also have a pair of Clarks long black boots with a chunky heel, and a pair of brown biker boots ditto Clarks ditto chunky heel. I also have trainers (but they are muddy and not stylish at all so wear them only for running/exercise/Guides) and walking boots.

So if you could only have 8 pairs of shoes, what would they be? For weekends, work, and going out?

In my case I work in an office but not too formal, weekends mainly consist of running around after the DCs park/soft play/shops and going out is once in a blue moon and usually with mummy friends, and in winter mainly slightly nice dress with opaques and black boots anyway.

And I like fun shoes, unfortunately!

Ooh, I like this question. Bear in mind I work in fashion in an office in which trainers are acceptable.

I'm going to say:

Black Nikes (mine are Tanjun which look a bit like Roshe)
White Adidas Superstars (black stripes)
Coloured Converse hi tops (purple)
Black leather biker boots
Black or brown leather riding boots
Black ballet pumps (don't do heels)
Tan brogues
Brown Chelsea ankle boots
Uggs for supermarket runs on cold mornings!

Black ballet flats
Black patent wedges
Navy heels (like Kate Middleton wears)
Converse
Fleece lined winter boots
Leopard print ballet flats
Pair of toms
Black flat sandals (little ankle strap and bit across toes for summer)

I pretty much only wear the above anyways hahah!

Vans
Ballet shoes
Work shoes
Biker boots
Shoe boots
Birkenstocks
Nude heels
Wedges

Having said that I would put the heels and wedges elsewhere as I can't remember the last time I wore heels.

I had a couple of pairs of Dunlop converse-a-likes over the summer but I don't wear them in the winter (and they fell apart, owing to the fact that they were dirt cheap) so I'm not counting them.

I have black flat Mary Jane style patents (I also don't really do heels and find ballet flats fall off).

My Uggs don't fit either so I'm afraid they are also currently in the kids welly space!

I think I may need to look into brogues. I am not sure my current collection is versatile enough... I have two pairs of the Camper ones that have elastic instead of laces, one black with red laces (but they are very scuffed) and one blue.

I also have a pair of shoes a bit like these red ones except the upper is royal blue suede and the sole is red, the laces are yellow. I love them and they are really comfortable but they are not what you'd call versatile.

And I have the dark brown ones from Fly London which are semi-brogues I suppose.

I just got these Josef Siebel ones in navy.

But I'm not really sure if I have the right shoes (I have a couple of other things I haven't listed).

None of them are really walk-miles-in-rubbish-weather-in-town shoes.

Suede is completely useless for rain!

My main work trouser shoes are the Camper ones which are fine but very casual (so they are great for walk-miles-in-OK-weather-in-town).

The smartest I have is the patent strap flats - I don't do high heels, but am wondering about something a tiny bit higher.

And I love coloured shoes but if you don't have many pairs, they aren't that practical!

You have 8 pairs of shoes. What are they?

I actually do have 8 pairs of shoes - full stop. My DH seems to think this is an outrageous extravagance!

  • Smart boots
  • Walking boots
  • Running shoes
  • Casual trainers
  • Summer sandals
  • Brogues
  • Mary janes
  • Ballet flats.

(I do want another pair - probably warm winter ankle boots - but the existing 'smart' boots might have to go before I can justify that).

Don't think I have much more than 8 pairs TBH
Stan Smiths
Nike Air Zoom
Black Flat points
Purple Flat points
Nude flat points
Birkenstock Madrids
Black knee Boots
Black Ankle Boots

Have given up on heels due to weak ankles, sadly.

Black patent brogues
Nude pumps
Black ankle boots
Black dubarry's
Silver flip flops
Purple toms

Plus trainers, walking boots and wellies. That would do me fine all year.

DMs.
Flat Conversesques (Vans and Dunlop fit me, Converse don't).
Hi-top Conversesques.
Comfy suede trainers.
More comfy suede trainers.
Running shoes.
Obligatory smart shoes for when I'm forced to dress up.
Something easy to slip on and wear in the garden.

That's actually pretty much what I have, but I have multiples of some of those.

drspouse · 13/10/2016 11:40

I'm the same with Converse, Iced.

Converse seem very narrow to me. The Dunlops are wider and the ones I've had seem fine in terms of longevity, although I do have quite a few pairs so each one doesn't get worn that much. TBH they're not shoes that I see as long-term investments anyway - canvas shoes get mucky and the soles wear down just like anything else, and there's only so many times you can wash them. And Dunlops also come in half-sizes, which I love.

Hmm.

Black flats/pumps for work
Blue flats/pumps for work
black ankle boots
Cosy boots e.g. uggs but more substantial tbh
black heels
nude heels
slippers
fit-flops

plus - if I'm allowed not to have included above! -
wellies
walking shoes
trainers

Report
drspouse · 13/10/2016 12:14

Yes I agree re Converse being narrow - my two pairs of Dunlops only lasted the summer though again I like the half sizes.
I think I have very bony heels though as the lining went through in the heels after about 3 months of wear.

I think I'm definitely cheating here, what with excluding boots, practical shoes, and summer shoes! You are all much more restrained than me.

That's actually the contents of my shoe rack Blush. I don't do shoes, so if your a shoe girl, dropping down to 8 may be a step too far. What about a winter set and a summer set which will fit in 8 holes. Some may be there the whole year, but the sandals and boots can be out at different times?

Report
drspouse · 13/10/2016 13:21

Yes that's kind of what I'm doing - the sandals are in the attic at the moment.

I'm not really a shoe girl in that I don't have a lust for teetering high heels but I do like my funky shoes.

Running trainers
pumps (say converse or superga)
black heeled ankle boots
brown knee high boots
smart black court shoes
flat ankle boots (chelsea/biker boots)
ballerina shoes or brogues
2 x going out heels

ooo thats 9 and I don't know what to cut out. I guess just one going out heels but that seems a little sad when they're the most fun.
