Anyone else just arrived in French resort with just a few runs open? Where in France or Italy is there snow at the moment as we might now need to drive to another resort.

There's an excellent forum called Snowheads, so maybe ask on there, as they have lots of...um.snowheads installed in the Alps, so will know where the best snow is
Where are you? I know VDI/Tignes is mostly skiable

Looking forward to hearing your updates, heading to Les Gets in two weeks, completely closed this week, they are refunding ski passes and Avoriaz which has snow, is restricting ski pass purchases. I am wondering how far you would have to drive and whether half the world will be there before you.

I came on to say this! We're going to les gets on Sunday, and have been watching the forecasts and webcams very anxiously.
Such an expensive holiday possibly ruined. Argh!!!

Where did you get the info about les gets/avoriaz please?

Hello, where abouts are you OP? If you are in the northern alps, in Italy, Cervinia is probably got the most snow at the moment, or in Switzerland, Verbier is ok too. There's a bit open in Avoriaz and Chamonix too. I don't know as much about the resorts further south, but I would guess val d'Isère and tignes would be ok, and alps d'huez. There is hope for more snow at the weekend to those coming for ny. I'm sure that by January, it will all be fine. Smile

DH was in Sainte Foy this weekend and went to tignes and Val, both of which were skiable but not great. Fine for this weekend, but will be insane later this week/next week if the surrounding area doesn't get snow as everyone will end up there. So fingers crossed for more this week...

Just seen after obsessively following weather forecasts that there will be snow in the Alps on Saturday - convenient Hmm as it is a changeover day, so hairy coach rides up and down the mountain. Think the snow gods are havin' a larf..

Yikes - we're off on Saturday - so much to do, so little time. Lunchtime on Christmas Eve and I realise I don't have any Euros..... oops!

I am watching snow reports closely - looks like the weekend should bring some - here's hoping Grin

In Tignes and Val D'Isere, there is snow and most runs are open, we reckon about 65%. A few are closed because of bare patches, but Tignes is very high up over 2100m, so what fell last week isn't melting.

The BBC world service ski report states that more snow is expected on Saturday, agree not good for changeover day.

However they don't specify how much snow?

Finger crossed

We're heading out on Saturday and I was already dreading the transfer with a toddler. A bad weather transfer and delays would be bleugh
Still, some snow would be nice

In Sainte Foy now and we've had about 35cm already and it's still snowing! Feeling sorry for everyone transferring today (we arrived yesterday) but at least there will be snow when they get here!

Ooh, how exciting. We are off to SF next Friday. Unfortunately the webcams seem to be down so thanks for the update Patricia! Is it skiable today?

Well done Patricia for getting there today - looks like there is emergency accommodation for travellers in the valley as the roads up the mountain are completely 'saturated' Sad [[http://www.liberation.fr/societe/2014/12/27/savoie-plan-d-hebergement-d-urgence-pour-les-automobilistes-coinces-par-la-neige_1170744 cars stuck in jam]]

Well skiable today - a bit like surfing in places as not beaten down. But still snowing! Friends of friends have taken about 12 hours to do the 150 miles from chambery today...

OMG!!!! 12hours? We had better set off now! Lol

DS works in the industry, in the Aravis & they have had more snow than they would have prayed for today.

Chambery to Moutiers took six hours today. Flight was a bit 'interesting' too - the pilot announced that he would 'have a go' at landing but that he might have to abort - we weren't to worry though as there was plenty of fuel on board and 'other options'! Thankfully he landed on the first attempt.

Yep we've been in it too. Geneva to Courcheval took 8 hours. Here now, kids asleep, glass of wine in hand.. Think I'll skip skiing lessons tomorrow and have a leisurely day.
