JaneEyresHeir · 10/01/2014 22:08

Hello to you two too!

Wonder what book Rob gave Pat for her birthday?
Jess Tess of the D'Urbervilles?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 10/01/2014 22:09

Please can I join? I lurked towards the end of the last thread, having got back into TA over Christmas Smile

GypsyFloss · 10/01/2014 22:13

Evening. I need to listen again at some stage this evening. I gather from elsewhere on the web that there was a fairly grim dinner tonight?

Minimammoth · 10/01/2014 22:16

Marking place. Grim dinner eh? Did it involve small round objects? Grin

RhinestoneCowgirl · 10/01/2014 22:18

It's my new year's resolution to actually post on an Archers thread rather than just lurking. Hello all Smile

Fantastically awkward dinner for Pat's birthday tonight, great stuff.

gwenniebee · 10/01/2014 22:19

Missed tonight! Didn't get home from work til 7 and then found dd Not On Good Form and needing lots of cuddles. Nasty nappies and rash, poor baby :( Whassup in Ambridge?!

MacaYoniandCheese · 10/01/2014 22:21

I'm an erratic Archer's listener as it's always on at awkward times here so am always trying to fill in the blanks. What happened to George's puppy?

MacaYoniandCheese · 10/01/2014 22:22

sorry rogue apostrophe.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 10/01/2014 22:27

Ed threw a ball which went into the pond, puppy chased the ball and also ended up in the pond. No lasting damage to the pet, but George now even more convinced that Ed Hates All Dogs...

MacaYoniandCheese · 10/01/2014 22:47

Thanks! I only heard the bit about Ed having thrown the ball and I thought the worst!

OddFodd · 10/01/2014 22:48

Great thread title as usual pseudo!

Really, inviting your cow-conveyor belt boyfriend to your organic milkmaid mother's birthday party is not the best idea is it? Sheesh!

I'm finding all the Peggy emoting stuff hard to handle when I know Jack has been dead for about 2 years

WillieWaggledagger · 10/01/2014 22:52

What a brilliantly ghastly dinner

Yes, I had the feeling the Tess comment was recycled from Rob's previous relationship. Cringey.

JessieMcJessie · 11/01/2014 04:27

NewTony sounds nothing like Rob.

I thought that Tom and Peggy were lovely together and don't think he's angling at all. Though of course they are just planning an expensive wedding...

Why on earth didn't Pat or Tony, when Helen said, "But Rob is so GREAT with Henry" point out the bleeding obvious that he will be severely hurt if Rob dumps her, like he did his wife?

Re recycling of the Tess comment - of course- Jess and Rob probably both did the book for A level at school together, and "Jess of the D'Urbervilles" would be a good play on words.

I think that OddFodd is a bit harsh - it is still an emotional time when someone dies even if they have had dementia and are effectively lost to you years before. And Peggy has been very understated in her grief. All beautifully done. I hope there is an award out there for June Spencer.

However it IS odd that Susan is suddenly worried about the shop when Peggy has had full POA over Jack's affairs for several years.

Iwantacampervan · 11/01/2014 08:31

Does Helen realise that Pat's worked out that the affair didn't start over the New Year? Rob wouldn't have had much time to be great with Henry in 10 days !
I think the Peggy scenes have been very good.

Eastpoint · 11/01/2014 08:35

I do listen & catch up but have I missed Pat ask Helen 'what has happened with Jess, his wife? Where is she?' Surely that is the biggest question. Helen is so dreadful, just leaving Henry with her parents without asking them, it's so frustrating listening to her.

TheSparklyPussycat · 11/01/2014 11:16

Telling that the Tess comment was about Helen/Jess being in love, not Rob, don't you think?

The pedant in me feels compelled to point out that the book Rob gave Pat couldn't be Tess, as she was "waiting for the paperback" and he gave her the hardback. Hmm, what could it be?

choccyp1g · 11/01/2014 12:22

I read on the other thread that they chose the new Tony for his mannerisms rather than his voice. it's radio fgs! they ACT the words that the SWs write for them. surely the minimum requirement for casting a radio drama is for all the characters to have identifiable voices.

I thought Rob sounded like Alastair, but he seems to have developed a new accent overnight.

punctuation is rubbish sorry getting used to tablet keyboard.

Panzee · 11/01/2014 12:30

Hi all, just getting settled in the new thread. I've not heard any this week, it's the omnibus for me.

SomewhereBeyondTheSea · 11/01/2014 12:34

marking place
Pat is SO passive aggressive.

TallGiraffe · 11/01/2014 12:56

Thanks Psedo. Marking my place.

Don't just lurk, join in lurkers! We're very friendly Grin

upsala · 11/01/2014 13:39

JessieMcJessie I think Oddfodd was referring to the actor having been dead not the character. Smile

ppeatfruit · 11/01/2014 14:13

God I'm a duh I didn't notice the link to this thread! Thanks a lot Psuedo i like the title Grin

I did post there that IMO Hell is terribly jealous of KirsTom and just HAD to have Rob at Pat's b\day bash to prove she 's not a single any more. That's why she wants to move in to Robs and bugger the consequences on Henry (she always been selfish as we know). Pat did say "what about Henry?"
