Hungry, hungry, I am hungry...

Do schools still use this? I remember it from school and when I sing it in work like you do no one knows it and thinks I'm crazy which I am but thats besides the point :)

Hungry, hungry I am hungry
Table, table here I come
I could eat a goose-moose burger
Fifteen pickles and a purple plum

I could eat three bowls of goulash
Half a pound of wuzzled wheat
I could eat a peck of poobers
Then I'd really get to work and eat

Oysters, noodles, strawberry stroodles
French fries, fish hash, one red beet
Lamb chops, wham chops
Huckleberry mish mash
Oh, the things that I could eat

Doughnuts, dump-a-lings
Blueberry bump-a-lings
Chocolate mush-mash, super sweet
Clam stew, ham stew,
Water
melon wush wush
Oh, the stuff that I could eat

Deep dish rhubarb, upside-down cake
I could eat a frittered flum
Hungry, hungry, I am starving
Table, table, here I come

Not met it before, but I DO remember;

The ink is black,
the page is white,
together we learn to read and write,
to read and write.

Also, at the end of the day (when you had put your chair on the table)

We're going home,
we're going home,
we're going home to dad and mum.. sorry, can't remember the rest.

Memories..ah...

I've never heard it before - but I like it!

Is there a 'familiar' tune to sing it to or do you just 'say' it?

CinnamonPretzel · 16/06/2011 17:13

Oh no, there is a tune to it too...
I sing it all the time when I'm hungry :o

Don't suppose the second song that I mentioned is as relevant today as it was in my C of E village school in the 1970's!

Report
SpringchickenGoldBrass · 16/06/2011 17:26

I remember another version of the second one..
The child is black
The child is white
And neither little sod can read or write

I remember it - but then I was born in the 1960's when Dr Seuss was all the rage. I even have a whole songbook...Blush

And swanhker is right, the last line is:

table table table here I come.

And I can sing the tune!

CinnamonPretzel · 16/06/2011 17:51

I didn't realise it was Dr Seuss until I searched for it yesterday.
I wonder if the tune we were taught is actually right? I can't find it on youtube Hmm

1970s lovecheese? getting warmer...

I'm wondering, if our school abreviated it slightly.. some of those verses I don't even recognise yet others I believe we used to repeat!

I was born in the 1960s and don't remember it at all - but I like it! Whats the tune? Where can I find it?

I only remember rude ones, like 'red white and blue, dirty kangaroo' (hid behind a dustbin and did a number two). I think I learnt that one at my brief visit to a primary school in Australia Blush

I remember it! Though only the first verse. Think I heard it from my Mum. I do get rather Hmm faces from DH if I sing it though.

It's from a book called 'Appuskidoo' ?spelling . It had other great songs such as 'when father painted the parlour' and 'fitba crazy', 'morningtown ride'

It was a school song book in the seventies
