Or something of a similar name.

Can anyone recall it. It is a fictional story set out like a blog. It was linked to on a preppers thread I was on before we got our own topic (in chat iirc)

I really want to read it again but can't find it.

Yes, I read it. The one written by a woman about a family with adult children? I'll see if I can find it.

Yes that was the one, with the pregnant DIL.

Did you have any luck finding it? I haven't.

No I can't find it! I've been googling but nowhere to be found.

I found it quite interesting. But quite amateurish in a lot of ways, - the actual writing, and what the problems/successes might be in the situation. What did you think? I found it gripping enough to read in one sitting.

Are you talking about Suzanne Goldring's 'Powerless ?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 22/11/2015 20:35

Yes! Cozie that's the one.

Yes, was definitely good enough to read in one day, after I'd watched the UK and US blackout films on YouTube. I liked that

The dc were thoroughly neglected that day Blush

Thanks for looking, I'll keep on at Google and link if I find it.

I started writing that post about a hour ago and posted by accident, hence the unfinished sentence there.....

That's it cozie thank you. And thank you for the link zombies

Off to start reading again now.

Oh thank you for the link, I couldn't for the life of me work out how to get the chapters in order

Yeah, it's a bit of a pain, you have to find October and go backwards to read in order but doesn't take too long.

Oooh, that looks like a good read. Thanks!

It's addictive. V good, but addictive. Just finished it, and have done feck all but read the last couple of days.

God alone knows why it hasn't been published, even on Kindle.

I need to reread it. What does everyone think. An accurate portrayal of how things might be if you have no power for that long?

Report
Stratter5 · 24/11/2015 12:18

Pretty accurate, although I think the majority would struggle considerably more - houses with fireplaces to cook in and gardens big enough to grow food for an extended family are not the norm.

Good point, they had a good set up to get through it. I wonder how townsfolk in blocks of flats would deal with it. I must reread because I can't quite remember it, but I do remember thinking they made their food last an awfully long time and wasnt sure of the realism of that. We eat a hell of a lot in our house!

Someone should maybe contact Suzanne Goldring or the writers group and suggest that maybe she should try for a publication of it. It wouldn't be expensive given that it's already written - and is also (presumably) on Word or something similar - and it might be quite successful as well as an interesting read for a wider circle than this board.

If definitely pay for it, thoroughly enjoyed it, although I think it's more of a novella, and probably best suited to Kindle.

cozietoesie · 24/11/2015 13:16

Maybe so. (The kindle bit.) I'd almost certainly buy it.

Indole · 24/11/2015 14:02

I really enjoyed it. Great stuff. It would be really interesting to read the other side of it, too - the refugees' stories who came to the village etc and what was really going on in the towns etc.

I'd buy it on Kindle, at a reasonable price. It's too short to be a full length book but there are plenty of other short stories and novellas on there. I think anyone can self-publish on Kindle, too.

It seems easy enough Indole. An evening's work reordering the blog chronologically and she would be away. Smile

I'm glad people are liking it.

I'm into June now and want to slow down reading as I know what happens in July and don't want it to end. Blush

Reading the other side, from the refugees, would be good too.
