Pregnancy

Baby on way

Waters broke last night so we popped to the hospital to get it confirmed, midwife on triage was so lovely, popped me on the monitor and had a quick check. Confirmed my water had gone, said baby is doing well. Had to stay in until 12 as when I got to hospital I was 36 + 6 and classed as prem, but today I'm at 37 weeks exactly Smile !

I didn't realise, but the monitors picked up some contractions, but clearly it's early days. We went back home and got in bed. I really surprised myself by getting about 5 hours sleep! Woke up this morning, baby still moving well, the contractions do seem a bit stronger but if he doesn't make his way today I'm booked in to go back tomorrow at 7 am.

Feeling very apprehensive but also so excited. Wanted to post here as I've had such awesome support and advice during my pregnancy! Any last minute tips are more than welcome too Flowers .

How exciting! :o
Get your OH to make a load of sandwiches that will keep for a couple of days, and have plenty of drinks you can grab on the go.
And clean some skirting boards...or something. If you do get the urge, I'm in County Durham and could keep you busy for a few hours. Then there's the ironing...oh no, just remembered you are a pregnant woman not the hired help :o

Thank you SPB I would happily clean for you, alas I'm in Lancashire! Our house is the cleanest it's ever been as my nesting instinct/boredom kicked in this week. I'm planning to go for a walk later with DH and our dog. The hospital have asked me to keep monitoring my temperature and contractions, the trouble is I'm getting vague period pains, I'm going to sound like a numpty but are they contractions? They are coming and going but fairly infrequently. I know I should know!

Mine felt like period pain - back and belly - but it was eased significantly by moving around. Periods are your womb contracting to release the blood so I don't see why it should feel any different in labour.

Just get plenty of rest ( though walk sounds good) and eat light snacks as later you probably won't feel like eating.

Will be thinking about you!

Thanks everyone, sorry for the confusion about the contractions, the baby isn't the most gentle - he's been kicking me quite vigorously for weeks and still is, which is confusing the situation!

Just had some light breakfast and have a shower then general potter about. I'm so restless with nervous and excited energy, I bet by the time he's ready I'll be too shattered to push!

I had period-like pains in the weeks leading up to waters breaking/birth. My MIL kept telling me that those weren't contractions. They were. I used to get horrendously painful periods and most of labour felt like period cramping but coming and going rather than constant. I think later on it felt different but I can't actually remember. Good luck, I remember how exciting it was knowing baby was on the way.

Eeeh how exciting! My first contractions were like period pain... started with them and leakage of waters at about 11.30 on the Sunday morning getting progressively stronger until waters gushed at about 7/8pm and DS was here by 8am on the Mon morning. Good luck!

So excited for you! I have been having slight period type pains occasionally but I am only 27 weeks so hoping it's just Braxton Hicks! Eeek. Good luck with everything :)

Thanks ! Still at home but contractions are stepping up a bit, so hopefully that indicates a bit of progress. Will try to keep you all updated as things go along. This is my first so I think me and Dh are hovering somewhere between disbelief, excitement and nerves. I'm really grateful for all the kind words and advice, and for providing a much needed distraction !
