Isn't it Prince Edward (Charles, Wills, Harry, Andrew then Edward?)

Croppy · 30/05/2002 14:58

Oops - Xanthe you are quite right

Oldest actor - John Wayne? (Just before he died.)
Or else maybe Jessica Tandy, I think she got one for Driving Miss Daisy.

Austrian patisserie - Danish pastry?

re the succession - if Beatrice precedes Edward, where does Anne fit in? Anne should precede Andrew in that case, surely.

Janh . Males come first, followed by their children. If they have no children (or their children have no children!) it reverts back a generation to the next male in line or his direct descendants.

Anne is currently 8th in line as the only female in that generation : Charles, Wills, Harry, Andrew, Beatrice, Eugenie, Edward, Anne (not sure if Peter and Zara come next due to Annes decision to raise as commoners). If Edward has kids, Anne slides further down the list. And of course everyone moves down when William produces an heir!

You clever lot - yes it was Tony Hancock but no-one's guessed the oldest actor yet. It's a male American, keep guessing...!

Fionn...Kirk Douglas? Hume Cronyn? Henry Fonda? "Male" rules out Jessica Tandy, I guess.

Marina, none of those! I'll post up the answer this evening.

None of those! Clue - he won it as Best Supporting Actor for a 1975 film, but was most famous (to me anyway) for a role in a 1977 film co-starring a now-dead singer!

Fionn, what a giveaway! George Burns! (OK, so I actually went and looked it up on Google).
Pamina, this is spooky. TWO minutes before you posted I was scrabbling around for the name of the man on the lawnmower too, and nearly typed exactly the same sentence - I couldn't remember the film's name either. Then I thought I'd got the actor with Hume Cronyn - but I think now it was Richard Farnsworth. Was the film called Straight? And who played the dear old codger?

Report
janh · 31/05/2002 19:35

George Burns? Walter Matthau?
Fionn, if you told us the singer would that be too much of a giveaway?

Report
Fionn · 31/05/2002 19:42

Yes, George Burns. The Richard Farnsworth one was The Straight Story. That was my guess too. Great film - did you see it?
I always go to the International Movide Database site for checking who was in what and when. It's very comprehensive; when Granada repeated the Sweeney receently I was looking up every episode as there were so many familiar faces I couldn't put names to!

bea, I was sitting in the cinema watching the Straight Story and gasped out 'Matthew and Marilla!!!!!!!!' half way through as I had just recognised him. I LOVED Anne of green gables, especially the one where she made her friend drunk on Marillas homemade wine. Ahh, nostalgia...
