This is the feedback thread for the 15 MNers who tested the Atomist Vapour Iron, but also NON TESTERS sharing their top tips on ironing.

The only way to make ironing more pleasant and speedy is to put really good music on and bop whilst ironing. I also like to put a drop of lavender oil in the water.

Agree re music or a TV programme you can watch whilst ironing, ie don't have to fully focus on.

I also dry shirts on hangers, and some school trousers on the radiator after a shake so they are less creased and need less ironing.

For some reason ironing on a Sunday evening gives me the sinking Sunday feeling about the next week, so I also avoid leaving it until last minute.

My tips for doing shirts is to do them whilst still damp. It's not quicker, but I'm sure it's easier than ironing dried in wrinkles.

I also think that hating ironing makes me do it as quickly as possible. I wish I'd had this to review. Our iron is about to die.

My top ironing tip is to not let it all build up. I hate ironing so used too leave it and only do it when it needed doing. Now I do it as soon as it's been washed and it's so much easier. It also doesn't take aslong to do and all of it gets done.

Non tester - I used to absolutely hate ironing so tried my best to do whatever I could to start liking it, even just a little bit more:

1. Buy the best iron your budget allows for.
   
2. Put on your favourite music to listen to while ironing and make yourself a nice posh coffee to enjoy.
   
3. Don't put the ironing off thus letting a huge pile build up that makes it a huge chore instead of doing it little and often.
   Ive got to say, I find it quite a satisfying task these days

Top tips would be to shake clothes well when they come out the washing machine, stops a lot of wrinkles. Also, iron regularly - I wash every day so I iron every day, means it doesn't take long and you don't need to store things anywhere while waiting to be ironed!

Ironing shirts is a real pain. I find it much quicker to iron them wet then hang them on hangers. Ironing practically dries them, you don't waste money tumble drying/ hanging on the line and save time either way!

Keep on top of your ironing so you don't end up with a mountain of clothes to iron on Sunday night! Watch tv or listen to music while you are doing it. Dry clothes flat or hanging if you can to prevent creases.

I'd say its easier to iron when things are damp. I give things a good shake and hang things directly on hangers as I take them out the machine. If the machine is emptied as soon as its finished, things are a lot less creased than if they've been sitting a while. I don't have a tumble drier so am after anything that makes my life easier!

I use ironing water to make ironing more pleasant. I also set the ironing board up in front of the tv and have a glass of wine while I do it.

Tester, not my proper feed back as I have a load of shirts in now that I want to iron with it when they are dry.

I'll be honest my initial thoughts are not as good as I was expecting. The instructions and set up are easy enough, it just hasn't got the creases out as quickly as I thought.

The first picture is before, the second is after I'd gone over it a couple of times and the third it after I'd put quite a bit of pressure behind it.

How did the Atomist Vapour Iron compare to your usual iron?
Favourably, but it did take a bit of getting used to. It feels far lighter than my usual soleplate iron so to start with I was a bit hesitant as I thought it felt a bit insubstantial.

• What did you think were the benefits of the Atomist Vapour Iron?
I liked not burning myself on steam!
Being able to see through the iron at what I was doing was good.
Over time I got used to it being light, so I think with a big load of ironing it won't be as knackering as it usually is

• Did it make ironing usual items of clothing easier? If yes, why? If no, why not?
Not to begin with as I had to have the ironing board the "wrong" way around to what I normally do, but that sorted itself out after a while.
I would say on balance that ease of ironing is similar.

• What did you think the benefits were of vapour over steam?
Not burning myself, mainly. I am v clumsy.
It did feel a bit like I was using an expensive water bottle to mist my clothes though.

• Why did you want to take part in this test and what iron did you previously have
I was very curious to see if must made a big difference to my ironing. Previously had a Philips. The mist iron will be better for large loads, the Philips better for one or two items.

Photos are before and after of a pillowcase that had a lot of old tumble-dried in creases. They are no longer present.

I just iron as and when it needs doing so I rarely do a massive pile of it.
This seems to make it more manageable and doesn't feel like I'm (wasting) spending too much time on a pretty dull chore!
I usually do it in front of the TV too so I'm watching something I like which again makes it less dull!

My best friend was over, I am not sure which one of us was excited the most! The kids has fun with the massive box and we did with the ironing.

We only had time to try a baby denim dress, so far so I can't give a full feedback,

But I am still not 100% convinced, it doesn't leave the creases as quickly as I thought it would maybe I just need to get used to it.

That said the design of it is amazing!!!

I try to iron the boys' heavy cotton joggers etc straight from the dryer - I dry in small batches to minimise creasing, anyhow. If they're not completely dry and are still warm, then any creases and crumples disappear quite quickly.

Failing that, I have my iron as hot as I dare with lots of steam. I had a summer job, as a student, preparing men's outfits for wedding hire. I spent a lot of time ironing and was taught to iron the nylon gloves, this way. With a hot blast of steam, the creases fall out, without the need to press through a cloth. Without that steam, you just end up with a melted blob!

I'll be interested to see how these irons do without that blast of steam.

I normally do a huge pile at once as I hate ironing so I do it while watching a film.

I hang washing as soon as it comes out of the washing machine to dry, as this avoids major wrinkling of the washing, but I also only do necessary ironing - work shirts and the children's clothes etc.

For ease of ironing, I let the iron heat up so that the steam works its magic on wrinkles and creases quickly. And, I only do the front of the kids clothes as that is normally smart enough for them

I had no idea I'd been picked and called DH this morning bemused to ask him if he'd bought me an iron.

Over the moon to have been picked - so far it looks very space aged compared to my current iron and I'm looking forward to testing it out in the morning before a night away tomorrow - then for the ironing basket on Sunday.

Do the ironing little and often so it's less of a chore.
A decent ironing board cover helps - nice and padded.
And don't feel you have to slavishly iron everything - just do the essentials.

I save my ironing to Sunday morning and iron whilst listening to The Archers Omnibus on the radio.
Hang as much washing outside to dry. It can often be folded without ironing.

Iron as often as needed to stop there being mountains of clothes that need doing!

When I sit down for an ironing session, I keep everything I need to hand so I don't need to get up.

I prioritise the DC's clothes, then mine and then DH - otherwise he'll wear the same few items over and over.

Some 89's music in the background to sing along to always helps to make a tedious task go that bit quicker.
