...for foetuses with Downs Syndrome and other disabilities. Can't believe it. I hope that any Mumsnetters living in Kent can get out and vote for someone else! Link is to Gravesend Reporter.

Absolutely shocking and foul. Disgusting.

Scarletohello Thu 01-May-14 20:18:45

Which is why NO WOMAN SHOULD VOTE FOR UKIP!!

WhosLookingAfterCourtney Thu 01-May-14 20:18:49

Disgraceful. How can anyone think that?

LoveSardines Thu 01-May-14 20:20:43

holy fuckaroly

what a delightful combination of disablism and misogyny

It was back in 2012 though? Just noticed on the article

SingSongSlummy Thu 01-May-14 20:21:44

Also some major UKIP donor today claimed that there is no such thing as rape within marriage., I've never been moved to start a thread here before, but bloody hell, I'm terrified that people are seriously considering voting for them.

madhairday Thu 01-May-14 20:22:21

That's utterly foul. Can anyone make the link work as on phone?

SingSongSlummy Thu 01-May-14 20:22:59

lovesardines true, but do we think he's changed his opinion since then?!

LoveSardines Thu 01-May-14 20:23:09

In fairness that particular man is no longer standing for UKIP after his 2012 comments.

Mind you, he has plenty of existing UKIP colleagues carrying on the good work hmm

Fairylea Thu 01-May-14 20:23:20

Absolutely disgusting. sad

SingSongSlummy Thu 01-May-14 20:24:03

I love how the party still maintain he makes an excellent candidate at the end of the article!

KEGirlOnFire Thu 01-May-14 20:30:51

They are loathsome slugs!!! Shame Nigel got egged - NOT!!!

nennypops Thu 01-May-14 20:38:59

Didn't they have something in their manifesto about locking kids with disabilities like Down's away in institutions?

SingSongSlummy Thu 01-May-14 20:44:27

Nenny it wouldn't surprise me!

WipsGlitter Thu 01-May-14 20:44:34

Dreadful, but 94% of women who find out they are carrying a child with Down's syndrome will terminate - so do they all agree with him?

AnyFucker Thu 01-May-14 20:46:02

I believe UKIP wish to cut maternity provision too

For God's sake, no one vote for them in any constituency

GeordieMama Thu 01-May-14 20:51:38

Yes Nenny they did angry

LoveSardines Thu 01-May-14 20:52:04

Wips I suspect that the vast vast vast majority of women who decide to terminate when they discover that they are carrying a child with (a high risk of) Down's Syndrome, do not agree that all women who are pregnant with a high risk of Down's Syndrome should be forced to undergo terminations.

Do you think they are likely to believe that? I am not sure what you are getting at with that post.

LoveSardines Thu 01-May-14 20:52:49

I think you would be hard pressed to find many women in the UK who would be in favour of forced abortion TBH.

Forced birth, you might have more luck with smile

AlpacaYourThings Thu 01-May-14 20:53:44

For goodness sake, as if UKIP couldn't be any more repulsive...

I am disgusted that anyone would vote for them.

SingSongSlummy Thu 01-May-14 20:54:56

Erm wips I imagine that the 94% will have been extremely grateful to have had the choice either way.

WipsGlitter Thu 01-May-14 20:58:54

He is saying children with Down's syndrome are unacceptable and not wanted in society. A burden. Why do you think women terminate? They don't want a child "like that". Yes they had a choice but they still ultimately don't want a child with Downs.

AnyFucker Thu 01-May-14 21:00:53

What about the significant minority that don't terminate ? Should they be force to ? Your point is not relevant.
