Recommended vacuum cleaner....

My trusty vacuum has given up the ghost. I have a dog, a toddler, and a baby on the way..... Any recommendations for what to look for next please.....?

Hello!

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the product recommendations are a little out of date. We've spent weeks speaking to parents and testing out vacuum cleaners, so here's the best vacuum cleaner 2018 as recommended by Mumsnetters.

Hope this helps! Flowers

watching with interest. I am looking for a new vacuum too. I have been looking at the Miele ones, the cylinder ones, are they any good? I have mostly carpets! There are so many different models I am so confused!

Upright or cylinder? and does it matter much which model? thanks

Wow that's pretty unanimous. Someone told me they found the miele (upright I think) too heavy, has that been anyone else's experience?

Miele make two different sizes of cylinder cleaner. I have one of the smaller more lightweight ones.

The only downside to the smaller one is obviously the bag is smaller so will need emptying more often, and while the bigger ones have a flap that hides the small tools on board the smaller one has a sort of clip that attaches to the hose that the tools clip into.

I have never used this clip, for me the benefit of having a lighter cleaner is worth the aforementioned compromises.

I almost bought a miele cat and dog, but found it very heavy. I wouldn't have like to carry the miele up and down the stairs.

I got the Samsung F500 instead. Very powerful and no bag so easy to empty.

I've always had a dyson, but got the large cat and dog miele 6 months ago and would never go back. It's loads better on hard flooring and it's fine on carpets if you turn the suction down and go with the grain of the carpet. It can be hardwork though. My mil can't use a cylinder as it makes her shoulder ache.

Miele, 100%. Avoid Dyson like the plague now, their customer service is beyond awful.

I have a Miele cat & dog. Love it. I also loved getting rid of the dyson!

Morphy Richards upright ,with the removable canister . They retail at about £140-150 . I have a vacuum cleaner collection ( yes sad) and it's the absolute best and definitely better than Dysons. Mine has to deal with a dog ,carpets and a long haired daughter ,my mum is also converted and she has 2 dogs ,a long haired housecat and wooden floors.

Have previously had both Dyson and Sebo after following reviews at the time, now have a Henry and wouldn't change. Household chores include very long hair and a black cat with additional long haired frequent visitors and long haired cats.
Cleanstore online have good prices.

Fishhead what a bargain. Thanks for that link. I am seriously tempted. I have a Dyson but it's no good for the stairs.
