Thank you @Lightsabre

Looking forward to following everyone's journeys and cheering them on 👏👏

FancyFanny · 28/10/2023 18:39

Thank you for the new thread!
Maybe we should all introduce ourselves and what our DC are applying for, for any newcomers?

I'll start:
My DD is applying to Oxford for Fine Art- she's currently doing a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design and has done A levels with A*AA and A in EPQ. She's just submitted her portfolio so got fingers crossed for an interview...

stoneysongs · 28/10/2023 19:08

DD is applying to Oxford for a small humanities subject, so I'd better not share the course. She is doing four A levels plus an EPQ (because her college won't let her drop it 😡) and has AS levels in the bag as we're in Wales, so 40% done. Don't know predictions as they don't share them 🤷‍♀️

Currently just starting half term and beginning to think about a bit of interview prep (just in case), amongst all the Halloween parties 🎃

She's had enough of the whole Oxford entry process really, so looking forward to all the shenanigans being over one way or another (hopefully after an interview ofc).

That's mad not letting her drop the epq...DS was 4 a-levels OR EPQ.

mummylife123 · 28/10/2023 21:09

DD is applying to Oxford for Spanish.
Astar Astar A predictions. Just observing the last thread was very helpful - we're not really from a school/area where Oxbridge is talked about or considered so sharing the experience with people is very valuable! She's doing interview prep at the minute, but is very aware she has actual A levels to study for too! And two courseworks to do so very busy in this house.

Silkiefloof · 28/10/2023 21:36

Thanks for new thread. DD is applying for Econ and Mgmt at Oxford and has 3 A stars predicted, state school. Also forced to do EPQ.

lifeturnsonadime · 28/10/2023 21:37

DS is applying to Oxford for History, he has 3 A star predictions but has an interesting background as he was a school refuser due to anxiety and undiagnosed SEN, he started running away from school in year 6 which continued to year 7 and he has poor GCSEs (and he only took 6 in total) compared with most applicants because he didn't really engage in education at all until about year 10. He did his GCSEs at home as that was his normal way of working. He is now at a state 6th form and is flying.

Revengeofthepangolins · 28/10/2023 22:50

DS2 is an english bod. But spent most of today planning his outfit for a Halloween party tonight, which I suspect is as it should be :-)

MirandaWest · 28/10/2023 22:50

DD applying to Oxford for History and Spanish. Half term has just started here so there’s a combination of general work, NEAs in two subjects and socialising planned. As well as my DSS’s wedding next weekend which needs a two night stay due to distance.

mondaytosunday · 28/10/2023 22:57

Welcome newcomers and as reminder to oldies:
My DD is applying to Cambridge for HSPS (Human, Social and Political Science), Sociology elsewhere (Durham and Bath, still considering others).
Three A stars in hand plus A star EPQ, on an Art Foundation course now as was intending to go to Art school but changed direction.
As she has her A star grades already she will get an interview. Her particular college also requires a written assessment scheduled for near end of November.
So great to hear that @lifeturnsonadime - hope he continues to thrive and grow!

catmomof3 · 28/10/2023 23:14

Thanks for making a new thread 🙂 My DD is applying to Oxford for English Language & Literature, she's also applied to UCL, Kings and has offers for Leeds and Warwick already.

Dummydaydream · 28/10/2023 23:31

Hi folks. My DS is applying to Oxford for Physics. Predicted AAA*A. Has offers from Liverpool and Birmingham. Also applied to Durham and Manchester.

Thatisagreatquestion · 29/10/2023 08:02

Interesting to see what everyone's kids are planning. My son has applied to Oxford to study computer science. He is predicted A* A* A and already has an A/S in chemistry. He doesn't have any GCSES as we were living overseas. He has coursework grades for his last two years but didn't do great as the school had a lot of disruptive behaviour and he didn't enjoy it as wasn't challenged. He is twice exceptional.

He is now at a state sixth form in England and thriving but doesn't really seem to do any work apart from in his computer science NEA! He has an offer from Sheffield and received an enquiry for more info from York. Waiting on Durham and Leeds Beckett. How are people preparing for interview???!!!

DSandDD · 29/10/2023 08:15

Thanks for the new thread. My son is hoping to read Spanish and Italian at Oxford. 4A* predicted. No other offers in hand yet. Durham have now sent the email with pin atleast 5 times and he received a request to share his language choices, which he had already done before. He sent them a note via the contact form to check if he needs to do something else as he already has a confirmation of his choices having been submitted. There was a few minute disruption for his MLAT last week, when neither he, nor the invigilator could figure out how to go back (the option showed up in the end). His preferred college have shared details on how to submit written work, but no request for a photo.

Pleasealexa · 29/10/2023 08:47

Ds applying for Cambridge Maths, 4Astar prediction. Offers received from Bristol & Nottingham. Even if he gets an offer he will have to do STEP (after A levels) which is super tough and the pass rate isn't high. I prefer the Oxford route as they assess before offer however he prefers the Cambridge course and is realistic about his chances.

Lightsabre · 29/10/2023 08:52

Ds has predicted of 3 A star and an A and is applying for Chemistry at Oxford. No entrance test so a lot of emphasis will be put on the interview. He's very quiet so this is a long shot but you never know. Also trying for Imperial, Warwick, Bath and Southampton.

OP posts:
tiggerandpoohtoo · 29/10/2023 08:55

DD is applying for Nat Sci at Cambridge. She has 4 A* predicted and has an A in her EPQ. Also applied to Durham, Warwick, York snd Nottingham (some are chemistry)

Jaxx · 29/10/2023 08:58

DS is applying to Cambridge for History and has A star predictions for his 3 A levels and EPQ. He is in a state school but is well supported both internally and through partnerships with local independent schools. Very recently finished his EPQ and first draft of his History coursework so can now concentrate a bit more on HAA and potential interview prep.

He has received offers from Leeds and Exeter and has also applied to Durham and UCL.

mondaytosunday · 29/10/2023 09:19

@Thatisagreatquestion interview prep so far has just been me asking questions from a list i got online (I can't do the interviewer digging for more depth bit properly as I don't know enough) to just get her used to 'thinking out loud'. She's also rereading any books she mentioned in her PS plus a couple new ones and keeping up with current affairs - the latter because her subject covers politics. I think her old school will set up a mock interview with someone outside school as a one off. It's online (shame) so at least no travel involved but harder to connect with the interviewer. She's very articulate when talking to me but of course then there's no nerves!
I imagine it will be more of a directed conversation than a compsci interview!

ShanghaiDiva · 29/10/2023 09:23

Dd is applying to Cambridge for natural sciences. Has also applied to Bath, Exeter, Warwick and Loughborough. Offers received from Exeter and Warwick.

PumpkinKnitter · 29/10/2023 09:25

DD applied to Oxford for biomedical sciences, with AstarAstarA predicted (also predicted A in AS maths which she is doing to keep her maths skills up). She is at a state school which is encouraging and provides some support with Oxbridge / medical applications, but pretty average in terms of results. She felt the BMAT didn't go particularly well so isn't really expecting to get an interview and is concentrating on mocks next week. She has also applied to Edinburgh, Bristol, Exeter and Warwick (all for neuroscience) and has an offer from Bristol.

Thatisagreatquestion · 29/10/2023 09:39

My son has also received a lot of information emails from Durham!

mushroom3 · 29/10/2023 11:24

DS, 4 A star predictions. Applying for Maths@Oxford. Is sitting MAT2 due to the disruption. Also applied to Lancaster, Durham, Manchester and Edinburgh. Offer from Manchester. Attends state comp.
