Join us as we bounce, hoik, stumble and otherwise get ourselves through one or other of Jillian Michaels' DVD programs. Some of us love it most of the time, others of us just do it and then learn to love it as we start to feel stronger, leaner and generally fitter. You can be as negative as you need to be, just show up and get it done. You know you want to.

Managed to return to Body Rev phase 2 week 6 (again) workout 6. Feels good. Found my digestion became quite sluggish while I was lazing about. Anyone have a theory?

Hello yadah. Back from holidays, I had a week off (the hols were very active, I came back tired!) and then did 30DS level 1 last week, doing L2 this week, plan on L3 next week to get back into the swing of things.

I first started doing shred a bit over a year ago - I just want to tell anyone thinking of starting today that this really can make a huge difference to your fitness and general wellbeing, and it doesn't take long each day. I've lost weight (also doing 5:2) while gaining muscle - being fitter and stronger makes life easier and more enjoyable!

OublietteBravo · 01/09/2014 17:06

Just back from holiday today. Marking my place - I definitely need to get back to shredding!

ImogenQuy · 01/09/2014 20:04

Marking place for the morning!

SpottyTeacakes · 01/09/2014 20:20

I'm still in pain

Littleorangetree · 01/09/2014 20:53

Got back to the shredding today 30DSL1D9 after a few days off.

It's encouraging to hear that the shred can make a difference ErrolTheDragon . Feeling very Envy of everyone that's been on holiday!

IAmNotDarling · 01/09/2014 20:55

I'm in mixing it up between 30DS, interval running and swimfit.

I'm not sure how I ended up with a tummy podge at the end of the summer!

standingonlego · 01/09/2014 21:26

OK....I am back in after several failed attempts. The running is going well, but shred was a great extra. Starting later this week :)

bertieboo · 02/09/2014 07:06

I'm so glad I found this thread.

I started the 30day shred for the first time yesterday and aim to do 30 days straight through.

Have started 30ds to improve my fitness, tone up and lose weight. All summer I over indulged and the holiday is now over.

Am really excited about this personal challenge as I'm terrible for starting something and not seeing it through!

1st September I weighed 71.5kg. My aim for Christmas is 58kg. I really hope this time I stick to my plan and achieve my goal!

ImogenQuy · 02/09/2014 07:11

30DS L1 D1 done. I'm mixing up going back to the Shred, with heavier weights, two days a week with Killer Abs three days a week. Plan is to have both finished by Christmas.

To support what ErroltheDragon says, I've been doing JM DVDs since May, and it really does make a difference to your strength and stamina. I say that as someone who hates exercise and finds it really tedious, but it is really worth it for how much stronger and healthier I feel. Now I'm doing the Shred again after working my way through Ripped in 30, the cardio and abs intervals are dead easy and the strength moves are only challenging because I've doubled the weights (only from 1kg to 2kg, but still...).

wellnowthenmardybum · 02/09/2014 07:17

Right. This it it. This is the time I WILL complete the 30ds. I have tried before but gave up after a couple of days, but no more excuses. I AM GOING TO DO IT.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/09/2014 08:18

bertie - when you say '30 days straight through' - it's important to take at least one rest day per week for your muscles to recover and rebuild. 5 or 6 days per week gets you through the whole thing in 6 or 5 weeks so you can easily go through more than once (or follow with Ripped in 30 or other DVDs!) before xmas. Smile

wellnow - believe me, if I can do it, you can! The first 3-4 days are by far the hardest, stick to it beyond that and you'll be over the worst.

bertieboo · 02/09/2014 08:23

Erroll, you're right. I'm probably being a bit ambitious too!
5 or 6 days a week is a lot more realistic.

I look forward to hearing how everyone is getting on over the next few days.

yadahyadah · 02/09/2014 08:29

Body Rev phase 2 week 6 workout 5 done. phew.

Hello Errol good to have you back again. imogen never thought I'd see the day ...Grin

yadah - I'd not heard of the body rev - how are you finding it?

SpottyTeacakes · 02/09/2014 14:25

Oh Errol I've done twelve days straight should I not do it today?

ShadowsShadowsEverywhere · 02/09/2014 14:51

Hi everyone, just checking in. I've had several days off, have been doing a few reps of a few strenth moves every day but not done a proper workout since I last posted. We have a new kitten so I've been a bit busy with her and then it's my birthday tomorrow so I've been having big clear outs and deep cleaning everywhere as the house had started to resemble a bomb site.

Want to try and workout tonight as will be out tomorrow.

ShadowsShadowsEverywhere · 02/09/2014 14:56

Spotty when you do relentless days with out taking a break you don't give your muscles time to repair. When you work your muscles it makes tiny tears in the muscle. Your body sends fluid to the area and this can cause some swelling or weight gain. If you don't take a day to rest every 4/6 ish days you aren't given your muscles time to repair those tears and rest which is also when the fluid will disappear. Before I got lazy and had a whole week off, I was taking a rest day every 3/4 days. After the rest day my measurements would have dropped and I've had a really good overall result - 4 inches off legs by the end of the shred for eg.

SpottyTeacakes · 02/09/2014 15:02

Ok thanks I will rest today Blush woop

perkynana · 02/09/2014 18:56

I'm brand new to this and had my first ever attempt at 30 day shred yesterday.... had a baby 4 months ago and feel like a bit of a wobbly unfit mess - time to do something about it! This morning I woke up to discover muscles in my back that I never knew existed. Ouch....

Really enjoyed the first two days though and hope to stick with it. Nice to be doing some exercise again after such a long break.

Littleorangetree · 02/09/2014 20:45

Woo hoo! Finished level 1 of 30 DS tonight, so on to level 2 tomorrow. Going to try and have a few less rest days inbetween for the next level as it's taken me a few weeks to do level 1 Blush.

yadahyadah · 02/09/2014 22:02

Errol, I like Body Rev very much. It is a longer program than the 30-day variety which gives it a nice feel - a slower but just as exacting progression. You do four metabolic (interval) workouts and two cardio a week for three months. In phase 2, she introduces supersets for example, which have you working the same sets of muscles over the course of the session. It comes with a menu plan (which I have not even looked at) too. If you can get a copy on discount or on Ebay I would recommend it. I have borrowed someone's for now but I reckon I would be prepared to stump up the cash once I had a chance to save up the ridiculous sum because I can see myself doing this over and over again. And, of course compared to a gym membership, it is peanuts.

Have done several circuits from NMTZ tonight, but not full workout. I just didn't have the energy by 11pm when I finally had the time to do it. Will try and get the whole thing done tomorrow, but at least the few circuits I did do will have counted as something vaguely related to exercise this week!

ImogenQuy · 03/09/2014 07:14

Congratulations on new kitten Shadows!

Killer Abs L1D2 done. I'm still at the uncoordinated flailing stage of learning a new workout: there's a move in this one (high knees with an oblique twist) that I'm just not managing to co-ordinate at all. Quite a lot of the moves seem to need a fair bit of co-ordination so I might give each workout on this disc longer than 10 days.

On the plus side there aren't many reps of each exercise so it doesn't hurt as much as Ripped did!

SpottyTeacakes · 03/09/2014 08:41

30DSL2D3 complete. I didn't realise I could sweat so much. My knee gave out once Sad
