In case you haven't heard, it's World Book Day next week and we want to know what inspired (or desperate) costume feats are you going to pull off this year. Upload your pictures to this thread and we'll pull out a winner from the Mumsnet WBD Hat on Monday 9th March.

The winner will receive an array of Dear Zoo goodies including: bundle of signed books, book and toy set, finger puppet set, mini backpack, plastic craft apron, socks and a bowl, plate, mug set and for older readers we have a set of signed Goth Girl books and a set of signed Geek Girl books plus red sparkly Geek Girl glasses. And of course a full set of the £1 books.

If you are stuck for ideas visit our World Book Day page for some great suggestions from mumsnetters.

My little guy went as his all time favourite book 'Dear Zoo'. We sewed the flaps to his favourite jumper! He was over the moon with his outfit!

This is an old costume for a seaside theme But if anyone needs inspiration it was very easy, although had to drink 2 bottles of bubbly for the eyes! Her sister went as a box jellyfish and made it into the local rag.

Ah thanks newshoes I was surprised how many compliments we got for it Blush I tried to talk my eldest son into going as burglar bill, we love that book!

Some great ideas here for next year!

Curlygirlie · 04/03/2015 18:44

My son wanted to go as the snail and the whale so we made it into a half term project!

I went as Twenties Girl (Sophie Kinsella)
I made the dress eyars ago, and just added the headband and necklace form random.

If anyone wants to do 20s style - you can easily do it with two straight pieces of fabric, joined at the shoulders and put a wide ribbon round the hip.

DD1 is going as Harriet Manners of Geek Girl fame.
DD2 is Rosie Revere, Engineer.

Both girls' costumes were made out of DD1's old PE t-shirts. Geek Girl's top has GEEK written across it using a fabric pen, her jacket has geek-related badges courtesy of eBay and her glasses come from a Secret Seven thing she sent off for last year. Rosie Revere's 'dress' is a PE t-shirt with what used to be a pirate bandana badly stitched around the bottom, snipped sleeves and fabric pen to add the black bits. Headscarf is from a length of fabric that was used as a tablecloth for a party pre-children. A pencil has been stitched and glued to it.

I am going as Valhallarama of the White Arms and Chunky Thighs but don't appear to have a photograph of myself in my costume. C'est la vie.
