Here's a fresh thread!

Let's start by introducing us/babies again Grin

Cannotbelieveit · 09/09/2014 09:32

DS2 is now 18+3. Previously slept thru from very early on but very much in the 4 month sleep regression presently!! He's ebf and waiting til 6 months to wean

DS1 is 17 months and is a fab sleeper but occasionally can stir in the night with teething pain

OP posts:
Writerwannabe83 · 09/09/2014 09:44

DS1 is 5 months and 2 weeks!

He is EBF and will start being weaned in 2 weeks.

We have had a very hard 2 months with regards his poor sleeping: difficult to settle, late nights and waking up repeatedly. However, over the last few nights there has been an improvement so I'm hoping things will be back on track over the next few weeks.

Writerwannabe83 · 09/09/2014 09:46

Cannot : I love the thread title!!

Cariad : It sounds exhausting!! Could you see your GP and see if there is anything they can do??

mrsmugoo · 09/09/2014 09:53

Thanks Cannot!

DS is 6 months. Been weaning for about 3 weeks now - finger foods and purees. Have just introduced breakfast as well as dinner.

His night sleep is about a gazillion times better since we used controlled crying to get him self settling around 4 months. Controversial I know, but it worked for us. He now goes to bed between 7:30-8 and sleeps until between 2-4 for a feed. He will then usually wake one more time and need to be either fed and/or brought in bed with me for another hour or so sleep.

I've kind of got 8 months in my head as a possible limit before complete night weaning - unless he just sleeps through by himself.

Day time sleeps - horrendous. We won't even go there!

In other news, I'm broody for number 2. Am I mad? Or are these 4 and 5 hour sleep stretches making me think silly thoughts??

Writerwannabe83 · 09/09/2014 09:55

Missmugoo - I'm broody for number 2 as well!!! I always said I would only have 1 child and was perfectly happy with that but over the last few weeks I can't shake the feeling that I would like another now Grin

mrsmugoo · 09/09/2014 09:59

I don't know what happened but suddenly over the last couple of weeks I've felt the urge to lose the baby weight, make more of an effort with my appearence, I've totally got my sex drive back (sorry of that's a bit TMI) and have become massively broody again. It's like 6 months in, everything changed!

Writerwannabe83 · 09/09/2014 10:12

I'm still waiting for my sex drive to come back - much to DH's dismay!! Grin However, if things continue to improve with DS's sleep and I'm not constantly knackered I might actually have the energy to think about it, Grin

I actually weigh less now than I did before I was pregnant. I think it's the BF, the constantly running up and down the stairs, no time to eat and all the walking Smile

I have decided today that I need to start trying to get DS to sleep in his cot for his daytime naps so once he fell asleep in my arms (I will face daytime self settling another day, lol) I put him in his cot but he woke up after 20 minutes and started crying. I will persevere though!!!

Cannotbelieveit · 09/09/2014 10:29

Sex drive came back very quickly here which surprised me (having the time to act on it all the time is another thing!) I had the implant put in last month as the small age gap between both boys was a surprise and as much as I'm broody we will have to wait til DS1 is at school!

I'm still at slimming world. I've lost 19.5lbs since beginning of July (still got 3 stone at least to go), I'm 4lb under DS2 pre preg weight and need to lose 1st5 to get to DS1 pre preg!

OP posts:
mrsmugoo · 09/09/2014 11:06

Wow cannot that's amazing weight loss!

Right at the point I fell pregnant I had just lost two stone through 6 months of very strict healthy eating and exercise. I've basically put that 2 stone back on from a year of not really exercising and not watching what I eat at all. Throughout the dark, dark newborn days I really badly comfort ate! I would sometimes eat an entire packet of chocolate digestives between 7pm and 7am being up all night feeding and trying to settle him. I felt very "denied" of any of life's other pleasure so I just ate and ate and ate!

Saw a really unflattering picture of myself recently and thought now's the time to get back in shape. I always said I would be back at my pre-preg shape before ttc again - well I have 6 months!

Cannotbelieveit · 09/09/2014 11:19

Thanks Mrs, I'm currently a size 16/14st1.5lb and my target at SW is 11stone but would love to get to 10st as 10st3 is the lightest I've been in adult life. We shall see, as I know my shape has changed considerably! I'd be happy to be a healthy 12-14 tbh!

I could easily eat that many biscuits in 12 minutes never mind 12 hours! Slimming world has helped readjust my attitude towards food now tho

OP posts:
mrsmugoo · 09/09/2014 11:24

Back this time last year I'd happily thrown away all my bigger clothes and then feel unexpectedly pregnant so after I had him I actually had no clothes that fitted all all, except maternity. I've begrudgingly bought a few things in bigger sizes but I've been wearing leggings a lot! I hate buying clothes knowing I'm going to lose weight soon as they won't fit for long.

mrsmugoo · 09/09/2014 11:25

Sorry about the weightloss hijack everyone!

Writerwannabe83 · 09/09/2014 11:39

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who can eat a packet of biscuits in one sitting!!! My weak spot is bourbons or caramel digestives Grin I also eat one of those big bags of maltesers most days Shock

Cariad007 · 09/09/2014 11:48

I've been scoffing cake like there's no tomorrow for the past 6 months! I only put on 5kg in pregnancy, 4 of which was DS, and it all fell off me pretty rapidly after birth. BFing has been a great way of keeping it off but now that I've started to get DS onto solids I'm making a conscious effort to cut back.

Writer I did think about going to the GP re the insomnia but my GP tends to be very hands off and will probably tell me to try natural methods etc. which I've tried!

I'm also on countdown for my trip to Oz in 5 weeks time but am not looking forward to the twenty hour flight. Partly because I'll be alone with DS but more because I hurt my tailbone while I was pregnant and sitting down for that length of time will be agony.

Writerwannabe83 · 09/09/2014 11:54

I used to find a nice mug of hot Horlicks and an eye mask helped me sleep Grin

I put on 3 stone when I was pregnant!! I don't know what that is in KG but I'm thinking it's a lot Grin

Cariad007 · 09/09/2014 11:57

I think that's about 20kg - you did well to get rid of it so quickly! Interestingly the women in my family have always lost the weight with baby no 1 very quickly but the weight from baby 2 has stuck around, even 30-odd years later. So another reason for me not to have another!!

Writerwannabe83 · 09/09/2014 12:01

20kg - bloody hell!!! I was massive though!!! My bump was huge!!!

I went from 9 to 12 stone in pregnancy but I'm down to 8.5 now.

I take medication though which causes weight loss as a side effect. When I first started the drug many years ago I lost 1.5 stone in about 3 months and whilst on the medication I just don't gain weight. When I was pregnant I had to have my dosage increased which is why I think I've dropped to 8.5 stone instead of my usual 9 stone.

Cariad007 · 09/09/2014 12:30

Does anyone else find it hard to eat properly during the day? I usually only have time to grab a sandwich and then end up snacking. I've started not buying snack food in order to avoid this! I guess with the colder weather coming up I can make soup in bulk but it was hard in summer as preparing salads etc can be quite time consuming.

mrsmugoo · 09/09/2014 12:48

I usually have leftovers from the night before for my lunch.

KateTheShrew · 09/09/2014 14:34

Hello everyone can I creep back into the fold please?

I've been away because DS's sleep has been SO bad I just haven't had the emotional energy to post Sad

We've got a serious feed to sleep association and I just haven't got the energy to break it. When he wakes, if I don't feed, he screams. Even if it's only been an hour. Once in a blue moon DH can settle him or he'll do a decent stretch of sleep, but mostly it has to be mummy and it has to be often. We are both exhausted and, although we make up during the day, we always end up arguing in the night. DH is massively supportive but both our tempers are just so frayed we end up snapping at each other!!

I've been in touch with a sleep consultant and I think we're going to see if she can help us, but first we have to get through a weekend away at a friend's wedding. My heart is sinking at the thought of screaming DS in a hotel

Is anybody else still struggling this much at nearly 8 months!!??!

Sorry for the pity party. It's not all bad, of course, but it's been a horrendous few days.

KateTheShrew · 09/09/2014 14:36

Oh, and I'm going back to work 2 days a week in two week's time. I would be quite looking forward to it if it wasn't for the sleep-deprivation...

KateTheShrew · 09/09/2014 14:42

Gah!! Sorry. Failed to reintroduce myself.

DS is nearly 8 months. Bf and (mostly) baby led weaning. He loves his solids and is mostly smiley and lovely during the day. For his nighttime antics see my moany post above.

He is an only child and may well stay that way if the sleep doesn't improve. Those who are already broody, are you quite mad??! Grin

Oh Kate, it sounds exhausting!! I think you are making the right decision to see a Sleep Consultant because you can't carry on as you are. Me and DH have had some very bad times with regards to snapping at each other and arguing and it was a daily occurrence too so I know how tough that can be. It's just so demoralising. It felt like all we did was argue Sad

Writerwannabe83 · 09/09/2014 19:34

Just finished the bedtime feed and DS is being really fractious. He has barely slept at all today - he woke up at 07.30am and in the last twelve hours he's only had 3 naps:

1x 20 minutes.
1x 40 minutes.
1 x 45 minutes.

He is absolutely shattered hence why the early bedtime.

He's in his cot now grizzling away...

I've got a major bad headache and seriously don't need this tonight.

Cannotbelieveit · 09/09/2014 19:47

Tried really hard to get DS to nap lots today he had 1hr40 worth of naps. I need to try and get him to have at least 2-3 hours in the day, doesn't help with DS1 waking him with his noise!

Anyway he's just feeding before bed (this one is always a mammoth 40-60 mins!)

Hoping for another improvement tonight Grin
