Baby names

If you like granny names for girls, what would you pick for a boy..?

Think we are down to a shortlist of two boys names (as mentioned in previous thread). These are Felix and Oscar. I love the name Felix but am worried it is too out there and also the cat connection is in the back of my mind...dont want ds's name to attract negative attention. Also grandparents hate it! Should I go for it anyway seeing as how dh and I love it? Is the cat connection that bad? Oscar I also love but feel it is the safer choice.

Do you have any other boy name suggestions we maybe haven't thought of? (dd has a granny type name so that gives indication of taste). Gentle honesty please!!

I can think of 3 Oscars that friends have had recently and keep coming across them at baby groups. Felix def less common where I live anyway (and actually I think oscar is more of a cat's name!)
Sorry I'm rubbish at coming up with suggestions though!

Having said that, an Oscar we know has a Fraser as a brother, and I like that...

I wanted Arthur, DH wanted George so we settled on Sebastian.

I know of 1 Felix and 2 Oscars (age from about 9 to a few months). I don't think either name is "too out there" - although my preference is Oscar.

Your choice - not the grand parents - that is why everyone always says don't tell them what you are thinking of and then they can't object

How about a 'Bert' name like Albert?

I like Arthur or Artie. Oscar is nice but not very 'granny' like. Felix - no.

I don't like Felix or Oscar; Oscar is downright ugly, imho.
The "Old Man" names I do like are hated by other MNetters so I won't even bother.

I have an Oscar and he is the only Oscar I know.
When pg with ds2 I wanted him to be called Felix, but after alot of deliberating we chose Ethan instead.
I love the name Felix but imho it does have a strong cat connection.

I love the name Theodore, sock. What a nice thought.

There are lots of Oscars out there. Think it's quite a bald sort of name. Felix is nicer IMO.

Henry is nice but not good with surname (boo) as surname ends in y sound. Think Theodore is quite nice (quite grand) but think it would end up being Theo and one of my good friends has a daughter called Thea - which would put me off.

So even people who aren't keen on Felix, is it fair to say they would be unlikely to go "omg you called him what?" ! Even if it's not your favourite, do you think it's a reasonable choice?

I love Felix, but my husband wasn't having any of it...

Stanley - Stan
Maurice
Jack
Alfred - Freddie or Alfie
Percival - Percy
Maxim - Max
Benedict - Ben

My boys are Albert William, and Frederick (Fred) Stanley. I love old men names. Both sets of in-laws hated them but we just ignored them

I also like George if that's any help?!!

Sorry, just read your last post properly. I think Felix is okay, it wouldn't be one of my top choices, but I don't think it's a name that would make me pull a face either..! Hope that helps...

We discussed Felix as an option with the grandparents when I was expecting dc1 (3 years ago). Straight away I wished I hadn't! This time we haven't had any serious discussions with them re names but the memory of their faces at the suggestion of Felix the first time is still with me. As I type though I realise it HAS been our favourite boys name for over 3 years. In that time have never met anyone with the name.

Thanks Helen, yes that does help! Am also reassured that you ignored your in-laws and went with your own choices.
