I like Elizabeth too hf128219. And Bette, Betty, Beth- all variations. I don't know any Betsy's in younger generations though and I like the idea of something traditional but not too popular.

Love Betsy, though I am of the 'name them the long name and call them the nickname' variety. Though through MN I have come to see why people don't do this.

It's the title of one of my favourite ever children's books (maybe yours too) so I do love it as a name.

I think it's one of the MANY abbreviations for Elizabeth. Which is ANOTHER good reason for using the name Elizabeth!

Please don;t use it as her only name - give her choices.

Or "Prime Minister Betsy Supercherry"

Cute for a little girl, but I don't really go for it for an adult.

Oh and I've only just found out I am pregnant- don't even know if it's a boy or girl just yet. Just very excited.

Seeker, I didn't actually think of Betsy as an abbreviation because my Grandma is a Betsy. But I do agree about abbreviations. My DS has a 'proper' name which we shorten.

It's very cute, but again, I'd give Elizabeth and then she can use what she likes when she's a high flying career woman (or whatever). Elizabeth is brilliant because there are so many variations of it - I always liked the Queen's childhood nickname Lilibet.

As a small girl diminuitive of Elizabeth, it's fine. But on its own - it's too twee. Wouldn't want to be saddled with it as a grown woman.

It's also my MIL's dog's name.

I don't like it at all, I think it's twee and silly and belongs to a 2yr old.
I love Elizabeth though, and Betsy as a short form is fine, but give her a choice.
