Pegatty
Peggarty
Pegarty
Pegetty
Peggotty.....

First name for a girl. Will be shortened to Peg or Peggy.

I don't really understand the question...

Is it a real name? If so, how is it spelled?

Or is it a made up name? If so, you can spell it however you want, can't you?

The only reference I could find is:

"The Peggotty family are fictional characters in Charles Dickens's 1850 novel David Copperfield"

So I guess that's how I would spell it.

Zippidydoodah Tue 16-Aug-16 21:29:40

Never heard of that name! But agree with the pp.

(PS. Just call her Peggy!)

Dontrocktheboat Tue 16-Aug-16 21:30:14

Peggity. It was the name of my parents' VW beetle in early eighties. I don't think it works that well as a child's name though....

hollyisalovelyname Tue 16-Aug-16 21:30:16

No!
Peggy or Peg is usually short for Margaret.

neonrainbow Tue 16-Aug-16 21:30:30

I've never heard of it. Id probably spell it Pegaty or Peggaty but i really don't like it. I know you didn't ask for opinions smile

Thewrongcheesegrommit Tue 16-Aug-16 21:30:55

Yes, sort of made up, just wondered which looked nicer/'correct'.

Dontrocktheboat Tue 16-Aug-16 21:31:06

How about Margaret nickname Peggy (as is usual i think)

TwentyCups Tue 16-Aug-16 21:31:30

I would honestly just call her Peggy

ThroughThickAndThin01 Tue 16-Aug-16 21:31:34

I love Peggy! It is so due a revival.

Not sure I'd use any of your choices, they sound made up.

I'd use Margaret or just Peggy by itself.

SuckingEggs Tue 16-Aug-16 21:31:49

They all look silly. And made up.

SuckingEggs Tue 16-Aug-16 21:32:23

Peggy is fine though.

JinkxMonsoon Tue 16-Aug-16 21:32:50

None of them look correct because it's a horrible name for a girl. Or a boy, to be honest.

RiverTam Tue 16-Aug-16 21:32:56

Isn't it the name of a Borrower? Or did I make that up. It sounds made up, whatever. Just go for Margaret nn Peggy.

justdontevenfuckingstart Tue 16-Aug-16 21:33:14

Peggatty, but why? Get out of my pub. Doesn't even sound nice to me, sorry.

Thewrongcheesegrommit Tue 16-Aug-16 21:33:36

(we already have a Maggie (not shortened))

augustusdecimus Tue 16-Aug-16 21:34:42

I would go with just Peggy, tbh.

orangebird69 Tue 16-Aug-16 21:34:51

I would spell it Peggarty. But it's bloody awful.

Thewrongcheesegrommit Tue 16-Aug-16 21:35:12

Arrietty is the borrowers name (dh likes this now!)

hownottofuckup Tue 16-Aug-16 21:35:30

Peggarty, think it sort of is a name already.

DramaAlpaca Tue 16-Aug-16 21:37:07

Peggotty is the correct spelling of the surname. The other spellings just look wrong.

Sorry, but it's a very ugly name.

Just call her Peggy! Or even better, Margaret nn Peggy.

soundsystem Tue 16-Aug-16 21:38:33

Peggoty.

In the 1980's kids series Puddle Lane, Timothy and Tessa Catchamouse's mother is called Peggoty, "but everyone calls her Pegs".

(My DD is currently obsessed with these books).

squoosh Tue 16-Aug-16 21:38:59

Clara Peggotty from David Copperfield was referred to as Pegotty in the novel. She's a lovely character but I wouldn't name a kid after her surname!

ThroughThickAndThin01 Tue 16-Aug-16 21:40:48

Don't think you can have Maggie and Peggy OP, they're the same name. (Or from the same name)
