to think this blogger & netmums user is wrong about MN?

Not sure if any of you have seen this blogpost here?

Commenting on Justine at the cybermummy event and also more generally about how Mumsnet it as a collective. As a young (ish) parent I like the fact MN don't feel the need to have a special section for younger mothers, I don't think there are many parenting dilemmas that are age specific!

yawn shock horror mumsnet isn't for everyone.

emy72 · 05/07/2010 14:52

I love mumsnet but then I am 38, married and have a postgrad degree lol ...

TrillianAstra · 05/07/2010 14:55

Unless you are very very young (and need help regarding living with your parents and your baby) I don't understand why a young parent would want different advice to an older parent. I can think of a few MNers who had their first children young, even if they are not quite so young now.

Ewe · 05/07/2010 14:56

Don't think I implied it was a shock that someone didn't like MN, I was commenting quite specifically on her saying that MN was unwelcoming to young parents.

Which is completely the opposite of what I have experienced. However when the first post on an AIBU is "yawn shock horror" perhaps it's not such a leap to understand her view.

And similarly I was loking at the netmums meet a mum section and all the mums in my area were 16-28. I am 39 so obviously the wrong demographic for that site. But hey ho, I'm not bitter, that's just life. Horses for courses etc...

NoahAndTheWhale · 05/07/2010 14:58

Just found myself replying. Seem to be a lone voice in the crowd

werewolf · 05/07/2010 14:58

Seems fashionable to slate MN nowadays.

BuzzingNoise · 05/07/2010 14:58

Well I am glad to fit into the MN criteria so well (in my 30s, I have a prof post grad qualifications and we have an income of (just) over £35k). I'm not married yet, but I've never noticed people being mean to me about it.

southeastastra · 05/07/2010 14:59

er okay

BuzzingNoise · 05/07/2010 14:59

And when I have been looking on NM the mums do seem a lot younger than me and so have different issues. Indeed it is horses for courses.

southeastastra · 05/07/2010 15:00

she should also spell check her blog

TrillianAstra · 05/07/2010 15:01

What are the different issues BuzzingNoise? Isn't it the age of the children that determine the parenting issues? I'll accept that all the non-child-related chat might be different here to on NM.

TrillianAstra · 05/07/2010 15:02

I bet that's it SEA - not the age at all but the differing tolerance for bad spelling

BuzzingNoise · 05/07/2010 15:03

I dunno, all sorts of things. I wouldn't necessarily get on with someone just because their child is the same age as mine.
The MeetAMum board on NM is good (and I have met a vry good friend through it) but a lot of the ladies there are younger than me and specifically ask for responses from similar aged people.

ReasonableDoubt · 05/07/2010 15:03

Course they are all teeny boppers. Couldn't you tell from the sparkly tickers? They are the t'interweb equivalent of sparkly 'Playboy' mobile phone cases or Claire's Accessories jewellery

mrsruffallo · 05/07/2010 15:07

Goodness me, they really do use ' hun' and 'hunni' constantly

Greensleeves · 05/07/2010 15:08

of course it will be wrong, it's a netmummer

never the twain

curryfreak · 05/07/2010 15:09

There's enough pandering to the young as it is. Glad there's no such thing as a young parents forum on here.
Let 'em stay at netmums.

mrsruffallo · 05/07/2010 15:09

what ho greensleeves
haven't seen you on here for ages

southeastastra · 05/07/2010 15:11

i think it's kind of rude of her to 'twitter' and 'blog' about how much she hates a site. just leave it then, what's the point in bleating online about how much you don't like it.

bitchy

Firawla · 05/07/2010 15:14

im on both, its true net mums has a younger feel & on here some people seem to think as if under 30 is so young but there are more funny threads on mn than netmums
i dont think its particularly unwelcoming and i have seen older mums on net mums too, so she seems to be making more of a big thing about it than necessary. if she only likes net mums then fine, noone said she has to come here too did they no need to whine about it

Ewe · 05/07/2010 15:15

Don't you mean itchy?

I think I would struggle with any site that forced me to use itchy instead of the word bitchy!

I agree with you Trillian, I can't think of any reason to segregate young parents, that's done enough in RL so I don't think it needs reinforcing here.
