AIBU?

AIBU to think that blaming Autocorrect for mistakes is just plain lazy?

Just read back what you have typed before hitting Post, for fuck's sake.

And if you made a typo that doesn't render the meaning completely indecipherable please don't write another post with *correction. We get what you meant, just leave it.

The autocorrect on my phone is such a smart arse that when you look at what you type, as you are typing it, it might well say exactly what you want it to say. But then by the time you have actually hit post it has decided within a nanosecond that actually you meant to say something else...So I'm afraid I think YABU. And the reason people post corrections immediately afterwards is to stop people pouncing on them for mixing up were and where, or your and you're.

does it really matter ? Confused

Depends on where the typo is. If it's the last word in a message it often changes once you stop typing to press something else (usually send) when it's too late to do anything about it.

Sometimes my autocorrect is a complete tosser. Every word will be written correctly, I hit post and spellings have changed. Really annoys me when it tries to tell me my email which it never gets right.

So I understand this. There are people on here who complain because you have spelt a word incorrectly. And will point this out. So you put in a correction post, and it's still not correct. What exactly is the correct way to post then?

My autocorrect is like reaches - it is a great big smart arse that thinks it knows better than me and edits after i have put in the right word.

Yabu. If I made a mistake when speaking to someone face to face I'd correct myself. Don't see it should be any different in an online discussion.

Plus I've seen Mumsnetters jump on a poster who's made a mistake, so would rather post a correction than derail a thread with that happening.

It takes a nanosecond to read the correction post and move on, so hardly worth creating a new thread to moan about it.

It's an online forum not an assignment. Most people won't proof read before posting.

I like it sometimes, when I read a post and it looks like a really odd word has been inserted through autocorrect I think "did that go in there because it's a word the poster uses a lot?". Then I'm GrinGrinGrin if it's a sex word.

You're totally right. My autocorrect is always playing up and I am too lazy to give a 💩

Sometimes though if I'm typing quickly I can press send before the iPhone has even had a chance to autocorrect, if that makes sense?

BeyondLovesSweetDee · 20/08/2016 19:12

Stupid thing is, I often have to go back and change my sentence fifteen times before posting - why do I not just turn the bloody thing off?!

It's because my hands don't listen very well and the gobbledegook wouldn't be much more legible! Grin

Apt name OP, you sound bored. Grin

I'm a poor speller and I type quickly. It not a good combination but I'm not going to carefully proofread my posts. I can't be arsed and I don't care enough. The thought that I'm pissing off the pedants and people like you makes me care even less.

I'm extremely careful when I'm writing something important but I don't classify chatty Internet forums 'important'

Good luck with the thread. My guess is that it a goady thread so it will probably go as you wanted.

This stuff pisses me off. I have to rely on auto correct. I had meningitis and it damaged my brain. What a twat am I when I get shit wrong.

Especially when I have to pick between 2 similar words (like in the shitty discrete/discreet thread).

Posts like the OPs put people off posting and it fucks me off. I am fucking disabled but it's ok to have a pop.

This thread has prompted me to get around to turning off autocorrect. It's very rarely useful and often simply bizarre. I did once send a second post after an autocorrect, which was supposed to say DYAC but it autocorrected that to something else.
