AIBU?

To think that Classics should be renamed Shittics?

.....or Trollics?

I used to love a trawl through whilst waiting for an appointment or on a train etc.

Now they're all 900 posts of placemarking, trolls who think they're funny, or someone wondering why a squirrel is sitting in a tree before finally scaring it off with a hose.

I mean come ON.

Not just you. I used to do the same and had me some proper belly laughs. But threads have become a bit contrived of late. The squirrel one was desperate, though it still managed to squeeze into classics thanks to a genuinely funny comment towards the end. Confused

The 'my DH has just eaten a fat ball should I tell him' was the BEST EVER.

Ouch! Harsh!

Have to admit, I haven't had a look at Classics for years. I love it when people link to the favourites but I haven't seen any of the recent ones. Which may prove your point, I guess. [wry face]

There are some in classics that are amusing.

I quite enjoyed the playgroup thread and over heard thread
"I'm 10 metres dilated=foof the size of channel tunnel." That made me laugh

The spray painted a pidgeon thread makes me laugh too "is that you Dave?" Grin

Some are just not funny. The replies in the squirrel thread was more amusing than the actual thread itself.

Just to clarify, the funny comment was not from the OP

A lot is rubbish but the dinner party ones are gold. Read one for about th 10th time yesterday and my fave is the anal pils.

It used to be a lot better. More selective. They shove any old rubbish in there now.

E.g. I thought the courgette one was lame and contrived, but it achieved a sort of cult status within hours.

Courgette one?

Agree. They are scraping the barrel when it comes to what goes in Classics these days.

I thought the original thread about the colleague throwing away op's lunch was quite funny, again more for the replies but agree that the courgette follow up was a limp lettuce

NeedACleverNN · 01/06/2016 22:56

Is "my colleague hit me over the head with a courgette" the courgette one??

That's because it's a sequel thread to another one that was full. That's why it was cult status

I really enjoyed the centaurs thread, though. I'm assuming that went into Classics.

I think we were a bit too picky in the past, too. I can think of a couple of threads that have vanished into the ether that I wish had been preserved in Classics.

It started as the mildly amusing tale of a wrongly binned sushi dinner.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/2629482-My-colleague-has-thrown-my-lunch-in-the-bin

Then spawned a second thread of courgette pictures, cock jokes, IT bitches.. whatever?

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/2631196-My-colleague-has-twat-me-over-the-head-with-a-courgette

I didn't really understand the need for this two part fridge-related thrill fest to be Preserved For All Time, but everyone but me seemed to be going mad for it.

Probably a sense of humour failure on my part!

I don't expect to find all Classics threads hilarious or fascinating and I do get a bit bored with all the people who have to keep banging on about how unfunny Penis Beaker was but I kind of agree OP. The Classics standard has definitely dropped.

katie me too. Was never funny to start with (in my mind) is anyone going to read that back in 6 months and be entertained. Honestly? Mass hysteria and being part of 'something' a bit of fun, of course. Classic? No. (inmymiserableopinion) Smile

Not just you OP, although some of the older ones in Classics are amusing. Lately they just make MN look like it's a place for idiots or trolls.

The black bird in my bedroom was always a favourite of mine. Oh and Brian from Hull, but I'm not sure he actually made it into Classics.

I can't remember the exact title but it went something like 'if you're raising your kids in a different country to the one you were brought up in what things do you do that other people think is bonkers'.

Twas amusing and educational!

Classics is meant to be the best of MN.

I have a soft spot for EMIN's thread about fostering a baby with withdrawal symptoms that later spontaneously turned into her obituary.

Rather off-topic but I thought it was a little off and rather bad form that MN Towers started a "funny things your children have broken" thread themselves. Didn't that feel a little bit not the thing? Not the sort of thing that would have happened in the olden days?
