AIBU?

To think this psychic woman is a twat

There's a local Facebook group for people to ask questions or whatever and a lady posted with some details about a dead person that has apparently contacted her.
She charged £50 an hour and clearly is just trying to get business.
I said I disagreed with it and she replies
"Wow abinob I'm suprised you think I'm a lying cheating scumbag!"
Hmm well yes I do think that but that's not what I said, I just said in reply to someone else saying giving so much detail makes it believable that there's such a thing as Google and Facebook

How did you express your disagreement? This might shed some light on her response.

Can you report her to Facebook to get her removed?

YANBU. So-called psychics are scumbags. A friend of mine lost a child and posts in a lot of bereavement groups. She's always getting messages from these loons saying 'your daughter is trying to speak to you' or 'I have a message from your daughter'. Facebook has just made it so much easier for these frauds.

Well, that's what 'psychics' do, isn't it? Is touting for business based on bereaved people's gullibility an allowed use of the FB page?

I replied to someone else's comment saying "or you know, google/Facebook research"
Then physic lady replied with the lying cheating scumbag thing and I replied with
"I didn't call anyone a lying cheating scumbag I'm just saying it's possible to know stuff about people's family without being magic or whatever"
She said some big long thing about how I must NEVER question her honesty and I said that I just don't agree with taking money from bereaved people who might be desperate but ok then.
Given that your not allowed to advertise on the group anyway and she is blatantly advertising

I'm sorry but I think they are scumbags.
Leeches preying on the vulnerability of people grieving.

I have no sympathy or time for them.

It's not even a case of "well it makes someone feel better", because how can lying to someone for money be in anyway doing them a favour?!

So-called psychics

As opposed to real psychics Grin ?

Report
TheCladdagh · 31/05/2016 10:34

Well, just get her barred for inappropriate use of a group. Of course she's a scumbag. Psychics are revolting, exploitative bottom-feeders, with a tiny minority (who are not usually the ones touting for business on FB, admittedly) well-meaning but of course utterly deluded.

One of the mind-blowing things about Mn is the minority of people who continually defend 'psychics' they saw, who Knew Things They Couldn't Have Known.

Apparently it's exactly the same thing as doctors getting paid for their time...
Now, if people contact a physic themselves and want to pay them or whatever fine that's their own choice but posting on an open group saying "I have a William contacting me around 70 blah blahblah" is really wrong and cruel in my opinion

I cant help thinking its odd that our Dear Departed are frantic to contact us and OK with them charging £50 an hour to pass on the message.

Unless its my Uncle Albert. This is exactly the kind of practical joke he would have loved.

Especially if the 'message' they've got in touch from the Other Side about is that Great-Auntie Jessie's garnet brooch is down the back of the fridge, and someone, possibly someone beginning with M, or maybe S, or R, might be having a baby in the next year or two.

If they were real and bloody conduits with the deceaseds messages, they wouldn't fucking charge. What kind of scumbag genuinely believes they have a message from somebody's deceased child, but refuses to hand it over until they cough up 50quid?

Do they know they're charlatans, or do they believe their own bullshit?

I hope you never ever need the services of a psychic as a help to move forward..."
I think they believe their own bullshit

They ARE lying cheating scumbags. Every last one of them. Whether they know it or not (because being charitable, some are just deluded).

Yes, I'm on tenterhooks to find out where Great-Uncle Norman's missing spectacles really went. On tenterhooks, I tell you.

IDK if you've read any of Derren Browns books, but in his first one he completely explains how they do it, and thats without even mentioning Google.

It's difficult to predict the future, but I'm willing to say with 100% certainty and no errors bars that I will never "need the services of a psychic", because I'm not a gullible fool with more money than sense.

I've had contact through MN re this sort of thing. It's not just facebook.

I have seen a number of 'Psychics'. I think most are outright fake.

A very few I do believe can 'tune in' to things but whether that is the 'dear departed' or just the fervent wishes of the sitter I don't know.
