AIBU?

to bloody hate tights?

Just that really. Ok, completely a first world problem but aibu to just really really hate the buggers and never ever wear them?

They are uncomfortable, awkward and just a downright pain in the arse.

I know some people say they have to wear them for work but I just think this is bollocks (the dress code that would require them, not the claim itself!). I mean, why are bare women's legs inherently 'unprofessional'? As long as you are clean and well groomed why does it matter??

Especially the flesh coloured ones, why does wearing a millimeter thin covering of flesh coloured virtually transparent material over your legs make you professional and well presented while having bare legs doesn't?

Aibu? Is there some benefit to them that I am so far unaware of?

Nope. YANBU.

I haven't worn tights since I was at school. I have worn stockings since age 14 and wouldn't wear tights if you paid me.

I hate them too.

Nope not BU. I always get the curse of the descending crotch then forget I'm in public and hoist them up Blush
My legs are also too chunky for 'natural' tights. Especially the ones with a sheen bleurgh

They're cunts.

I chop the feet off and wear them with big boots so that nobody knows.

The crotch/short leg thing is absurd.

I do have long legs, though. I'm 5'4" but have to buy long legged trousers. Clearly am some genetic freak.

YANBU - bare legs in summer and trousers in winter for me. If I have to wear something for an 'occasion' I prefer hold ups.

Tights are probably the least sexy clothing item in the entire world Grin

I haven't worn them in over 20 years. Trousers only in winter and bare legs in summer. I never found a pair that didn't hang down at the crotch. When I was younger I did try all different makes and sizes. Even the most enormous pair were never long enough.
Would never wear leggings for the same reason.

Pointless and ghastly creations. I don't own a pair.
But my dad used to wear a pair under his trousers for warmth, when he went sea fishing at night.

I struggle with tights too as I'm long legged for my height/size. I buy a large in tights but they keep falling down. The only thing that does the trick is a pair of control pants over the top of the tights which at least keeps them in place and disguises the muffin top

I wear them but they annoy the piss out of me. I pull them up to my boobs and still spend most the day hoicking them up as the crotch heads for my knees.

How do you people get your stockings/hold up to stay up?

I tried hold ups about 12 years ago and they rolled down my legs and round my ankles on my way to a date.

Do you have to do the full on garter belt thing?

Yes fish, what is the appeal of tights from an aesthetic viewpoint? They look awful! Weird shiny, beige legs? Whats wrong with just normal skin!!

I'm short but short legged tights are always too short and hang around the knees, and the long ones go all the way up to my armpits. No middle ground at all.

Leggings are just as bad IMHO, I know loads of people love them but I find them unbearably tight, uncomfortable and impossible to find a pair that isn't either too tight or too loose and falling down. But maybe it's just my weird body shape as I'm a shorty with a fat bum! Not to mention that they look absolutely awful on 99% of people.

Safe, the only way I've found is to either get the 'hold ups' with the silicone strip at the top in a size so small that they squeeze all the extra flab from your thighs up over the top to create a weird leg sausage effect......or....
the full on garter belt thing. Ensuring of course that the straps holding the stockings don't snap or ping off at some point during the night impossible

I am forced to wear tights all winter as I can't wear trousers (for health reasons, long story). I HATE them. They either cut your circulation off at the waist or they're constantly falling down. Go wrinkly at the ankles and the toes. Hold ups are even worse- prone to descending to your ankles at inoportune moments.

I breath a huge sigh of relief when the weather warms up, I spend most of the winter in a state of discomfort.

I wear woolen tights every day all winter. No issues. At you buying the right size? A good quality fabric?

I actually really like them, especially the lovely thermal ones. Now I feel like a weirdo.

Sometimes I really like the lovely fluffy wooly ones or those really lovely silky feeling ones, or ever the really pretty ones that look like lace....until I buy them and put them on.

Then they are hideous again, like I knew they would be and I chastise myself for believing I could find a decent pair Sad

I love tights. So stretchy and snug. They have to be really really thick opaque ones though. Really don't like wearing skirts and dresses without them due to chub rub and shoes never feeling comfy.

Yabu! I have worn black opaques every day for the last ten years, they are the comfiest warmest most flattering garment in exIstence. M&S 40 denier forever.

I stick to trousers in the winter.

For all of those who love them- recommendations please! I buy most of mine from TK Maxx so it's v hit and miss. Max mara are the best I've tried but I can't them anymore.

I hate tights too! But I recommend M and S Autograph black opaque. They stay up and are comfortable.

The Autograph hold ups are also brilliant. But I am a bit fat at the moment and have been wearing the tights for the hold in factor!

I too just don't get the thin ones, the ones I call 'lady tights'. I feel repulsed by them, which might be a slight overreaction!

I wear them often but hate the bastards.

They always chop me in half, so I bulge, even with large ones!

Why are they so crap?

My legs do look nicer in them though, and obviously warmer!

I make my tights look even sexier by wearing a pair of knickers on top !
Looks awful but stops the crotch drop issue !!

"How do you people get your stockings/hold up to stay up?"

I've worn hold ups quite a lot and found the following helps. They don't even have to be tight because all that does is gives you an overspill:

  • don't use shower gel/soap with moisturizers, or at least make sure you use normal soap where the silicon strip of the hold-up will be.

  • don't put moisturizer on your thighs. Don't put hand cream on before putting on the hold ups in case any transfers to the silicon.

  • don't use fabric softener when washing them.

  • Once you've taken the hold ups off you can't realy wear them again before they're washed (even if they weren't worn for long) because for some reason the "sticky" is reduced.

  • if all else fails you can buy a special "glue" called Staysput for keeping them up.
