Her new music video has no sex references, butts or twerking. She has a class that Nicki Garbage, Miley Virus and Kim Kartrashian lack.

What about her previous videos? 'Shake it off' has twerking and butts.

I don't think any pop star is a role model really but I like her.

She still just another star who jumps from man to man, her songs are her feelings at each moment in her life depending on if she's happy in a relationship or just dumped..

Her music videos are not a base on which to say she's a good role model or not you need to look at the whole picture,

How do you mean jumps from man to man?

She writes her own songs, runs her own company.
Yes I think she is a good role model.

I also like Ellie Goulding for similar reasons.

Neither feel the need to have a ' nip slip' to get themselves in the paper.

She's the best of a bad bunch.

I don't like role models. They can never live up to expectations.

I think it's ok to admire parts of their lives or actions, but I wouldn't want my child to have anyone (particularly in show business) as a role model in general.

Erm, isn't that called dating? What most people her age do, I imagine. Most people go out with more than one person when they're young. I don't know many people who married their first love.

I love Swifty. She can do no wrong for me!

I like her.

She is a very good business woman.

I don't think any celebs are role models but if my children were to look up to anyone I prefer it to be her.

Shake it off does have twerking & buts but in a very mickey take of lots of different dance styles way.

I like her. She's young however hasn't gone down the trashy route. Good head for business and keeps it classy.

I reject role models in the media and my kids have done so too. It's ridiculous pressure to place on young women and it is nearly always young women who are expected to be role models. They are rarely allowed to just go about their work- and it is their work- like a lot of men with high media profiles.

I rarely like pop stars but really like Taylor Swift.

She's talented, witty and intelligent.

I love how she can take the piss out of herself.

Ugh, she's painful.

OP at about 1:15 she is in bed in lingerie snogging the leading man, I am not sure I would define that as no sex reference. I don't have a problem with it as it is tame and she is a grown woman.

I do like her choices of music video, they aren't titillating even if there is reference to sex.

I think Taylor Swift is a force to be reckoned with. I wrote an article for work on her leadership skills and I find her fascinating for her business sense. When she was highlighted as one of the most influential people in the world by Forbes and Time in the past year there was a lot of criticism. But then she stood up to Apple.

I cheered her when she wanted to go hiking and avoid the paparazzi so went backwards! She has a great sense of humour - bringing on Lisa Kudrow and singing Smelly Cat.

Very good businesswoman - very intelligent and very PR savvy. She understands fandom and is savvy but genuine. Celebrates the sisterhood and other women's talents - yes, a great role model. I read a column by Bryony Gordon in the Daily Telegraph who suggested Swift could one day be president - watch out for her.

I like 'shake it off' too. Her songs are catchy/non offensive.

Although she's still only young, she comes across as really bright, kind and principled.

Plus she has legs to die for.

I've never really been into typical role models, and at 11 dd hasn't yet. Role models for us have been pro sports people who aren't in the usual celebrity limelight, and even then their personal life is only relevant if it's something they've achieved above the odds, or a parallel problem to us or someone we know. Or people we actually know.

She was in a bed, with lingerie on, but that was about 10secs of the vid. She is very clean, i'm happy my dd likes her.

Her music is not great imo but nothing will compare to my favourite artists of the 80s. Grin

YABU for not putting this in the special celeb part of MN!

Imo good role models should be people your children can relate to in real life not some vapid manufactured singer or TV "personality"

I love her. That song in the OP is a bit dull but I think she has written some great ones. "Mean" is amazing - such a fantastic message to give to bullied kids, that you will escape and make it and look back and be happy with who you are.

She really is a role model because she actually does and says stuff to show how you can be in control, run your own life and not put up with any crap, whether it's about men, the music industry, whatever. That's a great model for girls, but boys too and anyone who wants to be in the music industry.

I have no problem with her serial dating, didn't most of us do that in our 20s, and anyway if she wants to do it her whole life it's her choice. I like how she also addresses that in her songs - she gets criticised for it, she writes a song (shake it off) about how she intends to carry right on.

Taylor Swift terrifies me. Ultimate high school mean girl but with half the world adoring her and hanging on her every word. She's also managed to make Calvin Harris annoying as fuck.

Catchy songs though!

I agree that's what you'd want, but the fact is kids are going to look up to and idolise pop stars. I'd rather the pop star also be a kick-ass businesswoman who writes songs about not taking any shit from people, how to survive bullying, not bowing to crappy expectations, and ending relationships that piss you off.
