AIBU?

AIBU to feel bereft that Greggs has gone from my town?

That's it! It has gone. Shuttered up. I thought Greggs was riding the recession really well.

No more sausage rolls. No more Belgian buns. Shit shit shit.

We still have Percy Ingle - but it ain't the same.

Wait?! There is actually a town in the uk that A doesn't have a Greggs and B it's not the best performing shop around?

Wow that's bad if Greggs is closing, have two in my neighbouring small town! One serves cold sausage rolls and other serves hot.

I was going to start a thread about Greggs the other day. I think if you haven't tried their chocolate covered star biscuit things then you are missing out!!! They are delicious!

You can get some of the greggs range at iceland. The sausage rolls are much nicer freshly heated up at home and eaten still hot.

Percy Ingle? Are you in East London?

You need to leave, either your town is dying soon to be dead OR your town is too uber posh for people to eat at Greggs and you are clearly lowering the tone.

Ahhh cheese and bacon turnover :)

everythings are you talking about a spikey mikey? I love them! I think they are meant for kids but Ah well. And we have 3 Greggs and 2 cooplands in a tiny town . . . But they are always busy.

Our Greggs has discontinued veggie pasties Sad. I have to go to Wigan for one now. My life is SO damn hard.

Oh spikey mikeys are DDs fave. She even fights the ridicule of other 11 yos for one of those bad boys.

We have four Grin
But of course the running joke here is "what's the difference between a Gregg's pastie in Hartlepool and one anywhere else?" and the answer is "the one in Hartlepool has three kids in a buggy hanging off it"

Thank folks. *sniff

And oh yes - and the cheese and bacon turnovers! I forgot the cheese and bacon turnovers.

Location wise (to answer an earlier post) - my town is a well-heeled and close to London. Could it be that?

YAB sort of U, Percy Ingle is better and they do a fab range of breads. But I can see that not being able to pop out for a filthy baked bean slice when the mood strikes might be a tad upsetting.

Ah, I think the location is everything to do with it, CaptainTripps. I also live in a well-heeled town close to London and my local Greggs closed in the last few weeks. The local paper said it was a lease issue - in other words, the rent became too high. They're staying in our nearby town where the rents are cheaper and they're not getting competition from hand-filled panini merchants.

I know not of this Percy Ingle chap.

My local Greggs was featured on the Greggs programme that was on Sky 1! They no longer to almond crossiants. I'm gutted.

Sunderland has two Greggs literally next door to each other Shock

Surely it's excellent news as it must mean house prices in your area have increased and it's time to sell.

I've heard the "Gregg's Method" is what properly developers use. They buy when a Gregg's opens and sell when it closes! Follow those pasties!

I prefer Greggs to the Percy Ingle locally. YANBU!

PS don't tell my cousin who runs a local bakery in the town. She may kill me Wink
