AIBU?

To feel that winning the lottery is the answer to all my prayers?

I could stop working and I could spend more time with DD and DH and do something I love (learn languages, travel). I could see my parents for leisurely days out rather than only when I rely on them for childcare.

I wouldn't feel so runragged. I'd feel more engaged with friends and family because I'd have time to do so.

I wouldn't feel so shitty about my appearance because I could get a personal trainer, nutritionist, personal shopper.

We could have more babies because we could afford to give them a good start/university education.

Hate that this feels like the answer to my prayers.

being healthy and being loved is far more important than money any day. it cant buy you happiness never has never will. the baggage remains no matter how much money you have. why do you need a personal trainer. cant you go for a walk without direction from someone else? you have more chance of being struck twice by lightening than winning a significant amount so stop living in the what might be and live in the now.

Winning the lottery is a good answer to the vast majority of problems - even if you had serious health issues it would buy you the best care

Only a rich person would think otherwise

The only people it wouldn't help are addicts Wink

Nah. Would be your worst nightmare, think about it.........

How much to give to Family.......Friends?

How to protect your loved ones from every Criminal in the world from targetting you & yours from robbery, kidnap, etc etc

How to deal with the inundation of the press, camped outside your door day and night?

And on, and on

Fuck it, I say!!

We were talking about it yesterday in work and within five minutes there was an argument about who'd give what to whom.

My question is this: would you give some money to someone who you know wouldn't give you any?

It might not be the answer to all of life's problems but dear god it would help, a lot!

Just knowing that we didn't have to worry about paying the mortgage, bills, knew we could eat a really decent meal every day without having to worry, would be fabulous!

It would buy me time and headspace.

I run around like a headless chicken feeling out of touch with the world. I am just about keeping up. I've recently cocked up on 3 social invitations (missed a night out completely, forgot lunch and then had to cancel something else because i'd double booked) because my headspace is so cluttered.

It would buy me a PA who would organise my shit for me.

We could get someone in to finish decorating/refurbing the house so that DH and I didn't have to squeeze in 1.5hrs of wallpaper stripping every Saturday and sunday lunchtime when dd naps because that's the only time we can do it.

Seriously. It would bring me oodles of happiness.

I could provide quick quality health care for my parents who seem to be getting older with more ailments by the day.

As DH always says, money doesn't buy you happiness but it does give you options.

One of my dearest friends won £15 million a bit more than four years ago. To give a bit of context, we both grew up in w very rundown area, and both in care. We were both skint at the time. She had been given the lottery ticket as a gift at an engagement party, by her then fiancée.

It's not the answer to all life's problems, but it has sorted out a whole lot of them. She lives in a big house, she can afford nice food, not just he value range the whole time, she can bake a cake any day of the week without worrying about a food budget, she can give her DC pocket money and make sure that every time they have damaged unform, it is replaced. She has gone to the OU on a course (she's still doing it) and her husband has been able to be tutored and got help. He could barely read beforehand, in English. He's now got brilliant help and is far closer to getti w job (even if they didn't need it).

They now have two dogs (and chickens, guinea pigs and a horse), they couldn't afford a snail before. Their kids go to a lovely private school, and they all have nice phones. They get to go on great holidays and at Christmas, their house is beautiful due to expensive decorations. Their kids are guaranteed to be able to afford university or college or whatever they want. They own a £1mil house, and they bought houses for the two kids for £500,000 each which they rent out and make a fortune out of.

I think it would fix a lot of problems tbh.

I'm all for it, but if I won, I don't know if I would ever tell anybody. My favourite work isn't the kind that's ever going to earn me a lot of money (fun, creative, confidence building workshops with people who have disabilities) but if I won the lottery I'd be able to do it for free, and not have to take on other work to try and make ends meet. Plus, I love the idea of being able to make anonymous donations and surprises happen for all the amazing people I meet along the way.

Just think how much time you could spend making people's lives amazing if you didn't have to spend so much of it in sorting out your food and shelter...

If money would answer all your prayers, then you probably aren't in that bad position in life tbh.

I completely know how you feel though. DH and I have regular chats about what we will do when we win the lottery.

I don't even want that much enough to buy a 3 bed detached bungalow in our area probably about £250,000. We would continue to work the money we would save on rent could pay for private physio for DD and other classes to help improve her condition.

TBH it would be lovely to be able to buy a winter coat/boots without having to add up the pennies or pay for swimming lessons without phoning my mum.

I'd settle for a deposit for house right now but as it is I can't even afford a lottery ticket.

Well I'm trying to leave my crazy P! He's using controlling behaviour. The money would pay him off, and pay for a lawyer. My son and I could stay in our home, and I could do it up. Ie do essential repairs.

Oh, money. Where are you when I need you?

It's not even really about the money. We both earn ok and we've got a nice house or at least it will be if we ever get time to finish it and yes our problems are all of the first world variety so in general, and usually, I feel lucky.

This week I want to get off the hamsters wheel and chillax on a yacht.

I'm not interested in fancy cars or exotic holidays particularly but winning the lottery would mean that I could put the heating on whenever I wanted to and not have to watch every penny I put behind the till at Aldi.

I wouldn't have to worry about funding my dcs futures and I could leave work and finally get a dog!

I suppose such modest dreams means I don't have too bad a life really. Grin

In my job, I spend a lot of time with very rich people (I'm not, tragically) and I can tell you that they are no happier, contented or fulfilled than you and me. In fact, not having to make your way in life robs you of a lot of self-esteem. Sure you can distract yourself with facials, holidays and shopping but that doesn't make you contented.

Health is the most important thing, that and family/friends. Having said that, yes, I would love to win the lottery. I consider myself very lucky but I would love to win enough for my brilliant DP to give up work and go to Uni as she has always wanted to do. Not sure I'd want it for my Dd though, I have a friend who got a massive trust fund when he was 21, it was really confusing and difficult for him, he sort of lost ambition and didn't know quite what to do with himself.

ssd · 24/10/2013 22:22

being skint doesn't make you contented either and spending all day pleasing yourself must be better than washing dishes for £6.31 an hour

Report
bubalou · 24/10/2013 22:23

I thinks it's simple.

Money is nice and we all need it but it really isn't everything.

When people really have money it never seems to be enough and they want more, spend more, want more etc, etc.

We are comfortable and yeah we would like to earn more to get our 'dream' house but we don't need anything more then we have.
