Are we really producing ever more kids with these conditions or do parents simply need to take back control and realise that, at times, all kids can be obnoxious, loud, defiant, restless and fidgety and that strictly enforced rules for behaviour, lots of TLC, and the occasional smack on the bum may be the way forward?

You need to be much more subtle. Work it into a "someone I saw" scenario, or "my cousin's son" scenario.

You were too brash. Better luck next time.

We really are producing more of them. Some of it will be vaccine damage, some of it previously undiagnosed, some of it overdiagnosed and some of it bad parenting. Tis a mixed bag.

I used what I thought might be a deliberately provocative title and opening remark because I am extremely worried about the sheer number of diagnoses being made for these conditions, which, in point of fact, cannot be proven to exist, except in the minds of various psychologists (and of course the pharmaceutical industry)!

I am also greatly concerned that hundreds of thousands of children and young people are being prescribed exceptionally powerful psychotropic drugs in increasingly large doses with no apparent thought for any future impact on those children's physical and mental well-being.

I would suggest that these "conditions" are just another example of a society that is increasingly medicalizing what are, in fact, merely facets of human behaviour.

Grin Guddyup

And you're basing this on what? Please do tell so I can start heckling those parents please, because I'm sure they've not got enough on their plates with these made up disorders.

Never mind that... let's have an actual productive debate.

I think you need a SCART lead to make ADHD work. Have you tried Maplins?

TheJollyPirate · 22/08/2010 11:41

Hmm! Breton - my son was diagnosed with autism and the paediatrician told me that his high activity levels were indicative of ADHD. He is NOT on any mecication because tbh I can manage him without it so nobody benefits from his diagnosis except him - his support levels in school ahve been increased to allow for his excessively high activity levels.
