Anyone fancy joining me for Ocsober?

If so, we could make this into a support thread and maybe list ideas for non alcoholic drinks, good films and tv programmes to watch etc.

What is it?

FrasierCraneDay · 21/09/2021 09:38

Me! I've been drinking way too much since lockdown and I definitely need to reset

FanGirlX · 21/09/2021 09:41

@Pissinthepottyplease

Alcohol free October. Like Dry January and Dry July.

Welcome @FrasierCraneDay

My booze intake has gone up hugely since Early this year. I thought it would naturally stop as we were allowed out more but it hasn't.

I think an Ocsober "re-set" month will be good for me.

OP posts:
FrasierCraneDay · 21/09/2021 09:52

I felt the same but the evening glass of wine has become a habit that I definitely need to break

LowbrowVictoriana · 21/09/2021 09:57

Count me in. I had planned to have a sober September, but have failed.
Will be easier with a bit of MN support!

FanGirlX · 21/09/2021 10:42

I'm away this weekend for my birthday but plan to start on 1st October. Which is a Friday.

It would be good to have a place to come and chat for a bit if I'm tempted to go to the shop for some wine.

StarryStarrySocks · 21/09/2021 10:45

You can stop drinking any time, you don't need the start of the month and a silly name.

FazedNotPhased · 21/09/2021 10:48

What an amazingly helpful post, @StarryStarrySocks. What would we do without you.

I am going to do this, just need a bit of a pause before the party season hits!

LowbrowVictoriana · 21/09/2021 10:49

It helps to have a definite plan, preparation, mutual support and some outlines before embarking on any challenge @StarryStarrySocks.

DressBitch · 21/09/2021 11:02

I'm pregnant so easy for me to say yes.

Exactly right.

I'm planning on getting some nice AF drinks in and a list of distractions. Along with this support thread 😁.

I find if I can district myself for a bit, the desire to go and buy alcohol wanes / other posters talk sense into me.

Yes please, I'd love to join if I may

@BarbaraofSeville I'm sure you're intelligent enough to realise that a sense of community and mutual support is something that is of enormous benefit when making a change. But then again, why else would you make such a facetious post?

LowbrowVictoriana · 21/09/2021 12:40

It is clear, even from the one word title, exactly what this thread is about.
Why on earth would someone come on to say "this is silly, I wouldn't do it like this".
So don't join us then and avoid the thread! What arrogance.

Anyway, I'll be stocking up on Becks Blue and nice tonic (stock and CO2 shortages notwithstanding!) and looking forward to giving my body a rest. Smile

I rarely drink so I won’t but good luck. What I need is a snack free October. Octsnackless doesn’t have the same ring to it.

It wasn’t clear to me. I don’t sound things out when I read them. I see things as pictures not sounds.
LowbrowVictoriana · 21/09/2021 13:03

Ah, sorry @Pissinthepottyplease think it'd clear to most though! Smile
On the topic of snacklessness I tried to give up crisps in January whilst I was doing dry January... and failed miserably. They're clearly more addictive than alcohol to me!

Can't deprive yourself of too much at once! I find my cravings for sweet things go through the roof whenever I give up booze - maybe I've got a sugar addiction as well.

Thank you.

Most of us who drink a bit too much will have heard of / tried before Ocsober, Dry January, Dry July.

It sounds like a few of us want a break / reset.

I've signed up to Sober October with Macmillan so I'll join! I'm doing 1st Oct - 24th when we are going away for half term. Looking forward to a detox.

Please can I join you? I need a reset and being accountable to other people helps me massively when I do Dry January.
