I found this article powerful and quite moving. Summed up a lot of what I instinctively felt about Labour but wasn't clever enough to express. Thanks Janice. I'm not sure how to share...

article

Hi Trewser that article is behind a paywall.

KatherineJaneway · 14/12/2019 07:25

Unfortunately can't read it as I'd have to pay

Trewser · 14/12/2019 07:31

So sorry. I know there's a way to share but I don't know how to do it Blush

The times is owned by Rupert Murdock it will be biased.
Unless you're that way inclined (Tory) I wouldn't bother

Peony99 · 14/12/2019 08:57

It's a great article and some of PPs' responses sum up Labour's problem.

"I want something for free"

"I disagree with someone so I'll ignore them"

Yep, that's why you lost.

birdsdestiny · 14/12/2019 09:01

Yes history only read what we tell you to read. Do you never learn.

KatherineJaneway · 14/12/2019 09:10

"I want something for free"

😂😂😂 Certainly don't vote Labour and no I won't pay to read an article about any political party or other subject for that matter!

LumpySpacedPrincess · 14/12/2019 09:12

I've taken her advice and re joined

DippyAvocado · 14/12/2019 09:15

Whereas Bozo is a guru of first-hand knowledge. At least Labour (who I did not personally vote for) had some policies aimed at benefiting the 'working class'.

HandsOffMyRights · 14/12/2019 09:19

Thanks Trewster..I'd like to read this, maybe somebody has a share token. If not, I'll drag my arse up to the newsagent.

Janice and the Times are doing a fantastic job higlighting the risks to women of self ID - something Corbyn and Abbot were happily endorsing this week without a thought for the working class women who could be forced to share their intimate spaces with men.

Mind, in fairness, all parties have a terrible record for this.

Trewser · 14/12/2019 09:28

I have a subscription. Does anyone know how you get a share token?

I thought it was spot on, and really quite moving about the ordinary working class who felt forgotten by Labour.

ForalltheSaints · 14/12/2019 09:30

The UK exists beyond London. Most political parties forget this, and Labour is as guilty as anyone of this.

HandsOffMyRights · 14/12/2019 09:34

Thanks Lemon

Here you go.
(Editorial independence was a condition of the sale of the times/Sunday Times to Murdoch, fwiw, it carries a range of opinions. )

Thanks for higlighting this Trewster
Another astute piece by Janice.
Especially happy that Owen and Ash were cited too.

birdsdestiny · 14/12/2019 09:52

God owen and ash are just awful beyond words.

Llareggub · 14/12/2019 10:02

I wasn’t expecting to agree with the article but to my surprise I find she has it spot on.

JoyceJames · 14/12/2019 10:02

How would she know? Anyway, Times journalists think the working class don't exist.

shinynewapplesonachristmastree · 14/12/2019 10:05

Absolutely agree with what she is saying here. Shocking at the number of predominantly working class areas where the Tories not only retained seats but have taken previous Labour strongholds, and for this to happen in the current economic situation even more shocking. Labour really does need to consider what and who it stands for.

noodlenosefraggle · 14/12/2019 10:09

How would she know? Anyway, Times journalists think the working class don't exist.
Janice Turner was born in Wakefield and brought up in a working class family in Doncaster. Guardian journalists and their momentum mates think the working class are all scrubbing around in the last remaining coal mine while walking their whippets to the Working men's club. Wonder if Owen Jones will be calling out Lily Allen and John Hannah for calling the white working class thick, racist misogynists for voting Tory on Thursday? I won't hold my breath on that one.

OldGrinch · 14/12/2019 10:11

Great article. Janice is spot on as ever.
