So what are you all buying your 4.5/5 year old ds?

Ds wants a watch, a 2 wheel scooter and Ben 10 stuff ... other people in the family will buy those but I haven't got a clue what to buy him from us! I prefer not to buy him tv character stuff from us (other than stocking bits or PJs etc) as he will no doubt grow out of his Ben 10 phase and into something else. What are your ds' into at the moment?

lego, cameras and trains here. depends which one you talk too.

thanks nellie ... he had a starter box of lego last christmas and has last year's mirror offer freebies for his stocking this year. Doesn't seem in to trains and my mate gave him the Vtech camera last year .... I think it is a weird age .. they are too young for the more difficult lego and ds games etc but too old for quite a few of the toys.

Well we caved in and got a ben 10 game as well. I'm sure its crap but they will be delighted just because its ben 10

it does seem a bit fiddly this year because as you say they are in between everything

I am stuck too, DS is the same age. He sometimes asks for a castle which must have a dungeon. Not paying out for a playmobil one though. Have also thought about getting him a DS but I think he's still a bit young.

I always find it hard as I want whatever we buy him to last him .. his birthday is February so he gets things all at once so it all has to get him through the year. Ben 10 toys etc just probably won't do that. I want a "lego" type present ie. something that he can use for a long time to come!

My DS is just weeks from his 6th birthday. this last year he has played with Ben 10 figures, dinosaurs, jigsaws, football, tennis, golf, snakes & ladders, ludo, twister and artwork was a big thing this year.

DS 4.5 loves his castle. For Christmas he's asked for the Fisher Price Imaginext space rocket. Playmobil also good.

Thanks for the ideas, will give it some thought. Ds doesn't seem to be spending much time playing with toys .. he makes models with old boxes etc and draws most of the time! Perhaps a couple of board games would be a good idea. He loves his Diego laptop that he has had for a couple of years ... was wondering whether there is one for the next age up?

Am I being dumb just got the hang of Ben 10 which may I add has been into for over a year thanks to his older cousin! Well worht the money! Picked up a few alien force figures in asda recently 15cm 2 for £10 normally 9.97 each He has DS and it has been the best thing ever he doe not overly play but can be useful in long car journeys etc

Other stuff (besides Ben 10) on DS's list is Lego and Monsters vs. Aliens on DVD.

Last year we got him the ELC Tower of Doom (or is it Castle of Doom?). It's a whopping £75 RRP in ELC but I got one second hand in good condition for under £30 on eBay (result!). It would probably meet the "castle with a dungeon" criterion.

ds has some ben 10 action figures which he loves and I am sure someone in the family will buy him his Kevin Levin car that he is after. He has also been mad about ben 10 for a year now .. but judging by the other children in his school it won't be long before they all move on to Star Wars etc. He does not have a ds but has a leapster which someone bought him last year. He loves it and at least it is vaguely educational. I am sure he would love a ds but I wonder if he is too young and what games he would be able to play successfully!

power miners lego. ds is wanting to collect the lot.
Oddly, he wants buzz lightyear cuffs with lasers this year. He loved toy story when he was 3 then grew out of it. Now loves it again.

I thought about getting those remote-control hamsters which are in the papers as teh must-buy toy of the year.

I usually end up buying them books (yes I am boring mum) as they have so much stuff from other family.

I think DS2 got playmobil when he was that age. It's a great toy once they are into it (or if they are as some children not keen).

Shop around for a set on offer - there is usually something good to be had for £20-£30.

thanks everyone. He has the pirate ship playmobil and the rubbish/recycling cart .. plus a few other random second hand bits and pieces that have been picked up over time. The only problem with it is that it is BIG and has to be left out if he is going to remember it and play with it regularly. We spend most of our time in the kitchen and there just is not the space. He is not a "play in his room on his own" type of child unfortunately!

If he likes drawing/art - what about the projector desk thingy from elc - or the spiral art? My sister has got the projector for DS who is 4 - he saw one at a friends house and loved it. Or if he likes models, what about one of those cardboard box castles to make and colour?

Remote control dinosaur, its all he wants although he will get bits as well. He seems to have got it into his head that he can only have one thing- and that includes Christmas Dinner, so is struggling with the idea that he can have both and more LOL.

Whilst the other boys seem to think they can have all in the shop

(he's six but has SN so is bought for as a 4 year old)
