Fake frozen dvd

I purchased a frozen dvd from dvdhouse.co.uk ( recommended from reasties thread) . When it arrived it was clearly a fake region one dvd sent from Thailand. Has anyone else had this problem?
I would caution anyone thinking of buying from this site.

Was so close to buying that as saw it recommended on here. Still have it bookmarked but seemed too good to be true. What gives it away?

It did seem too good to be true when it wasn't a well known site and it was so much cheaper than elsewhere.

Is it a bad fake? Does it play okay? I once took a gamble on some cheap DS games. When they arrived the packaging was bad copies and they obviously weren't real but given the cost of returning them I kept them and they played just fine. I obviously didn't buy from there again but at least what I did get was useable.

I had one from .co.uk website, what gave it away was that the soundtrack was in Chinese/Thai it does run in English if you turn the subtitles on and off again.

I haven't opened it , I knew it wasn't a good sign when it arrived poorly packaged from Thailand.
The picture is different from both the Uk and US official dvd. Also the quality of the picture and print is very poor. Am hoping for a refund as website looks genuine . Do you think the suppliers could be ripping of the website or am I naive?

I bought a frozen DVD from a British sounding website (can't quite remember it at the moment) I had no idea it was coming from Thailand until I received an email confirming delivery would be approximately 21 days. About a week after that I got my rubbish fake DVD with a foreign soundtrack. I immediately contacted the supplier via the website (the only contact details available) no reply surprisingly.
To cut a long story short, I paid through paypal, complained to them, refused to send it back to the supplier recorded delivery as it would cost more than I paid for the DVD and in the end paypal refunded the total to me after I told them they were supporting the import of fake goods! Hope this helps if you paid via PayPal!!

Well it's on it's in English and clear picture so far x

The lack of contact details on that site would put me off ordering. The delivery details are also a bit vague, dispatched immediately but it does say something about it taking weeks to deliver internationally but not were they are dispatched from. So not surprised they are coming from Thailand and that they may not be genuine, as the price is below what a UK retailer can sell them at.

Digital copies are very good these days, the only glitches tend to be things like menus and packaging which may not be in language expected.

Do let your local trading standards know about fakes. Probably little they can do without knowing where this company is located but it may help to track import route so more packages stopped at port.

It was my link on the thread - so sorry everyone. got mine the other day and soon as I saw the packaging saying it was from Thailand I thought it's got to be a fake. Not had chance to play it yet.

I should have realised the price was a bit too good, but didn't really think too much since it's a .co.uk web address (which now I think about it means nothing really)

Sorry again, I really had no idea. Hope you can all get refunds sorted [flowers{

Ipawichwitch no need to apologise it's not your fault. The website looked genuine.
I have escalated a claim via paypal so hopefully I will get a refund. But annoyed that the amazon price has now gone up by two pounds but I imagine it will go down again before Christmas.
Lizs I haven't opened the dvd ,what do you mean?

Quality of digital copies is usually spot on because they're digital - not like copied tapes which lose quality.

Still, I wouldn't buy one. The thought of money going to a dodgy company like that isn't nice. Thanks for the warning OP :)

I got taken in as well - £37 worth of DVDs including Frozen. Made a claim with Paypal and despite a number of emails, they confirmed refund is subject to returning items to the seller irrespective of items being allegedly counterfeit. See their response:

"Thank you for contacting PayPal regarding PP-003-409-009-074.

While it may be against laws and regulations to ship a counterfeit item for commercial purposes, it is not illegal to return an item that has been alleged to be counterfeit in the process of pursuing resolution through consumer protection avenues.

We understand your concerns with returning an item where its authenticity has been questioned. The seller is denying your claim and stating that it is not counterfeit, and based on our review of the information other than that of the physical item itself - information on the seller’s business and track record, we believe that the best course of action is to return the item.

Please note that while it may be against laws and regulations to ship a counterfeit item for commercial purposes, it is not illegal to return an item that has been alleged to be counterfeit in the process of pursuing resolution through consumer protection avenues.

Our policy calls for buyers to bear the cost of returning merchandise in a claim. You are free to work with your seller to attempt to seek reimbursement for the cost of the return shipping. If you are unable to return the item to the seller as requested we will not be able to assist you in securing a refund.

With PayPal Buyer Protection, we help you to recover initial funds from sellers who deliver goods that are 'significantly not as described', or in other words, goods which do not match the original description. In keeping with our PayPal Buyer Protection program, we ask that you return the item to the seller so that we can issue a refund to your account. Without return delivery confirmation, we will be unable to issue a refund. PayPal does not cover the cost of returning the item.

Please fax or upload the proof of shipment by 09/29/2014 . If you fail to provide the documents within the given timeframe please note that we will close this claim in the seller's favor. Please use the PayPal fax cover sheet or alternatively fax the documents with your name, your email address and the respective PayPal case number onto the following fax number: 402-537-5760. That's awful Lil88 dvdhouse refuse to answer emails they are hardly likely to refund the return postage.

Correct ; ( that's if they actually confirm receipt of any returned items the cost of return delivery being the sale as the fake DVDs.

It's disgraceful that Paypal is colluding with this business purporting to be a Uk/ british business advertising wares that are subsequently fake. Believe me I have tried referring to Consumer Contract Regulations and Sale of Goods Act.

Not being cynical but Payapl are receiving income out of all the transactions regardless.

Here is the latest response from Paypal - showing in any event that Paypal also wins financially if a claim is found in favour of a buyer as Paypal retains the sellers' fees - not sure what they means exactly but presumably that is on the basis that when the actual refund is made i.e. when the seller confirms that the order has been returned by the UK victim to the Thai address. And you know that the seller is likely not to confirm safe receipt...........

"Thank you for contacting PayPal.

PayPal retains full discretion to make a final decision in favor of the buyer or the seller based on criteria PayPal deems appropriate. In the event that PayPal makes a final decision in favor of the buyer or seller, each party must comply with PayPal’s decision. PayPal will generally require the buyer to ship an item that the buyer claims is Significantly Not as Described (SNAD) back to the Seller (at the buyer’s expense), and PayPal will generally require a Seller to accept the item back and refund the buyer the full purchase price plus original shipping costs. In the event a Seller loses a Claim, the Seller will not receive a refund on his or her PayPal or eBay fees associated with the transaction.

Please let us know if you require any further assistance.

Jacinta
