Does anyone else love vintage Christmas stuff?

I have a big collection of vintage and antique Christmas decorations and have this year bought some unused vintage Christmas wrapping paper too!

I just LOVE the stuff! I just mentioned it on another thread and thought I'd see if there were any other MNrs who are like me!

My childhood was a 70s one and I love the things from then but any era prior to that will do just fine aswell! look at this

Me! I love it. Luckily my husband is on board, so I can distribute 'vintage' tat liberally about the house from December 1 onwards.

The wrapping paper in your link brings back memories, my mother used to buy it at about 10 sheets for 15p at a market stall.

I still hanker after a sheet of wafer thin black wrapping paper
(was meant to be the night sky) with little red Santas, and snow on it. There might have been chimneys too.

I was talking to people about getting the boxes of decorations out each year when we were small, and the Christmassy smell they'd have. My mother said it was probably a mixture of cigarette smoke and deflated balloons. Blush Grin

I LOVE my old/vintage stuff. Some of the paper garlands are more sellotape than tissue and a couple have sadly had to be binned. I wouldn't be without them at Christmas though! Big paper concertina decorations including a colossal multicoloured ball that I have to hang from a hook as it's so heavy :)
The smell of old tinsel is nothing like new tinsel. I can smell it now!

That paper was always so thin!

I absolutely love it. The designs are beautiful. But.... I also know it's partly nostalgia and I don't want to inflict my own on the kids, if you see what I mean.

I know what you mean Suzie so I try to strike a balance...I buy some modern papers too....my DC like Disney crap stuff. I mean, my Mum never inflicted original 1940s papers on me when I was a kid in the 70s! Grin (though I'd have loved it!)

I love vintage stuff and going round markets looking for quirky objects to personalise my IKEA house!

There are some good pages on facebook selling vintage stuff. Kitty Wainwright is a good one, I cant link from my phone.

I always buy the 20 sheets for £1 wrapping paper from market stalls, I love using it for the kids sacks. It looks fabulous and really takes me back to my childhood Christmas'.

I love the sheets of paper, much better than buying a roll and all your presents looking the same. I do try and buy paper that matches the colours on my tree, last year we did red and white but this year we are going for vintage (real tree and lots of red, green and tinsel). I make my own bunting using vintage fabrics and this year I have made cushion covers.

I love vintage lights and decorations.
I know dad has some in the attic - tin figures, foil decorations. Buggered if I can find them though

DH has the Christmas lights that his father bought to drape around his cot when he was 6 months old. He is 62 now !
They are very fragile and I use them on the mantle piece garland and only for an hour or so each evening.
Little coloured bobbly bells.
DH's father died in 1972 and its a lovely link to his past for us.

I also have a lovely book you would love from late 70's (although think it may have been a reprint of an earlier book-maybe as early as 50's)-It was called The animals-Merry xmas by Richard Scarry-have a google on google images- Lovely illustrations -brings back lovely memories reading it to my dc's.

My Nan always uses the sheets of different wrapping paper, I love that the presents all look different.

An older neighbour of mine has a tree with about 50 years worth of decorations from different eras, it's a proper family tree, not a matchy tree and it looks fab every year.

I have to say I always get excited to see Nans presents, the lack of matching paper/cards/tags is what give them that true Christmas feeling. I match mine due to lack of imagination but might try different this year.

There are lots of lovely Christmas postcards on eBay at moment ...just had a peep. I will left you all know if I ever get round to sticking gtge stuff on eBay but wouldn't hold out much hope as they've been in the spare room for at least two years! The paper reminds me of when I was little in the eighties so yes must have been still around then makes me reminisce about Two Ronnies Crimbo special oh I love mumsnet , should be in bed but chatting about Christmas instead.
