Spring may be on the horizon (finally!), but that doesn't necessarily mean we'll be bidding goodbye to chilly weather just yet. My household is still in an ongoing battle over the thermostat, and it's unlikely we'll be shaking off our winter coats anytime soon when outdoors either.

Staying cosy and warm without racking up a huge energy bill is still a top priority, and over the past year I've been on a mission for Mumsnet to find the top buys for beating the chill – testing out everything from the best heated gilet to the warmest electric blankets. Recently, my quest for cosy has turned its attention to the best heated slippers – many of which just need a quick 60 second blast in the microwave to work.

Warmies is one of the leading brands for microwavable products, so I decided to put their Fully Heatable Slippers to the test to see if they really made a difference to my home office comfort levels. Here's what I thought...

Our verdict

  • Comfort: 4/5

  • Warmth: 4/5

  • Style: 4/5

  • Value for money: 4/5

If you're looking for something with a little more warming power than your standard slippers, I think the Warmies are a great buy. I loved their lavender wheat bag-style scent and they provided a comforting level of heat for around 30 minutes, which may seem short, but is fairly standard for microwavable slippers.

They were easy to use; a quick minute in the microwave was all that was needed, and I found they were warmer than Kuddly Komfies, another heated slipper I tried out. However, I was disappointed that they couldn't be machine washed, and while they were cosy to wear while sat at my desk, I think the comfort levels could have been elevated with a thicker sole. That said, for less than £20, they're a lovely nice-to-have item for working for home rather than an essential, and I think they'd make a great gift alongside a Warmies hot water bottle alternative (another favourite of mine!).

How easy are Warmies Microwavable Heated Slippers to use?

Warmies Microwavable Heated Slippers in use

Super easy. Just pop the whole slipper in the microwave for 60 or 90 seconds depending on how powerful it is, and that's all that's needed.

However, I docked a mark from the ease-of-use score because they are spot clean only and can't be machine washed due to the filling. Usually, I wouldn't be hugely concerned about this with slippers, but as they need go in the microwave, I would have liked to have given them a proper wash.

Warmies Fully Heatable Slippers: what are the heat levels like?

I was very impressed at the heat generated by these microwavable slippers. In fact, for the first few seconds, they felt a little too hot even with socks on, but then after a minute, it became a comforting warmth that made me feel extra cosy at my desk.

I wouldn't say the heat generated and coverage is enough to keep the thermostat down like the best heated throw, but they certainly make a nice, small impact in short bursts.

As an added bonus, they did help to soothe aches too; during testing I had a minor foot injury and it helped to ease the pain.

How long do the Warmies Microwavable Heated Slippers stay warm?

As with other microwavable slippers I've tested, the heat lasted just under 30 minutes, starting to gradually fade after around 10 to 15 minutes of use, so they're better suited to short bursts of warmth rather than long-lasting use.

The good news is that you can simply reheat them in the microwave again once they've reached room temperature if you don't mind shifting from your desk every so often.

Design and style: Warmies Microwavable Heated Slippers

Warmies Microwavable Heated Slippers

I loved the fluffy fabric of the Warmies, they felt super cosy to slip my feet into and the anti-slip grips on the base were a useful safety measure too. I do, however, think the design could be improved slightly with a thicker base for more cushioning underfoot like the Kuddly Komfies have.

It's also worth noting that they are a one-size-fits-all design. The elasticated opening helps keep them on when moving about the house so they don't slip off, but I do have small feet (UK size 4) and so the slippers did feel roomy for me.

They can feel quite cumbersome when walking around the house compared to a standard slipper thanks to the weighted beading on top of the foot. However, this is to be expected from a heated slipper with a filling and they're much better suited to sitting at a desk or on the sofa than pottering about anyway.

Do the Warmies Fully Heatable Slippers offer good value for money?

At just £16, I think they offer great value for money, and they are nearly half the price of our other top heated slipper pick, the Kuddly Komfies. They are definitely more of a nice-to-have item than something that will have an impact on energy bills, however.

How we tested

I tested the Warmies Fully Heatable Slippers in my north London home across two weeks in February. During testing, I carefully rated them on their warmth, how long their heat lasted, their ease of use, and overall value for money.

  • Tested across two weeks in cold weather

  • Used indoors when working from home and also for pottering about the house

  • Cross-compared with other heated slippers and foot warmers I've tested
