My Expert Midwife No Harm Nipple Balm Review: soothing and simple to apply

The most expensive of all the nipple creams we've reviewed, My Expert Midwife No Harm Nipple Balm has a lot going for it - an easy-dispensing pump, just three ingredients and a smooth, soothing consistency. But does all this justify its price tag? Breastfeeding mum-tester Bethan put it through its paces.

How we tested My Expert Midwife No Harm Nipple Balm

Parent-tester Bethan, a mum-of-one currently breastfeeding a newborn, tested a selection of Mumsnet's top-rated nipple cream samples over a period of several months. During this time she took rigorous notes on each cream's effectiveness, ease of application, feel and value for money as well as her overall verdict on each nipple cream.

Discover how the No Harm Nipple Balm compared with other Mumsnet-favourite best nipple creams, including Lansinoh Lanolin, Bennetts Nipple Cream, Weleda Nipple Balm, Mama Mio Keep Calm Nipple Balm and Medela Purelan Nipple Cream with our in-depth reviews.

My Expert Midwife No Harm Nipple Balm: how does it feel?

'The cream feels like a serum,' said Bethan. 'It has a lovely light texture but not too slippery. It stays in position when applied until rubbed in but is very light.'

How easy is it to apply?

Bethan said: 'The No Harm Nipple Balm is very easy to apply due to its light consistency, but its not too slippery, it applies really well.'

I find it glides and spreads very easily and doesn’t drag the nipple at all. It’s also a pump tube which is quite handy and makes applying quick and easy with a small pump onto a finger.

Does the My Expert Midwife No Harm Nipple Balm have an odour?

'It has quite a lanolin odour,' Bethan explained.

I have tried this product on my chapped lips and did find it soothing without a strange taste getting into my mouth. It’s light but sinks in well and I can feel the effects some time after applying.

It is more of a serum than a heavy balm. I would say it sinks in very well and feels like it really is soothing any tightness.

My Expert Midwife No Harm Nipple Balm: Overall verdict

'The balm is easy to apply and has a nice texture,' Bethan reported. 'I would recommend it, but it is pricey.'

It is a lovely product and does feel like a well made serum. It’s also only made of three ingredients which is comforting knowing your baby is only coming into contact with natural ingredients when they feed, but for the price, I think it does the same job as much cheaper nipple creams/balms. If you can afford it, great, but if not, I wouldn’t hesitate to choose a cheaper option.
