Yes, saw that. It's depressing to be reminded how much some people (mostly men, and the women who believe their best interests rest with supporting them,) really, seriously hate women.

Memoo · 28/04/2012 12:41

I feel like I need to do something about it but don't know what.

Wow, a dm story where they're on the raped woman's side. I may buy one

Just came on here to look for a thread about this.

Appalling.

Yes, you know it must be bad if we find ourselves in the same corner as the Daily Mail's editors on this. That in itself is scary.

The Change.org petition on the other thread here is a start - specifically about asking for the award to be withdrawn.

I only wish there were a way to mobilise every mother, wife, girlfriend, sister, daughter and friend of any man who's supporting the "clap for Ched" stunt to drop them like a hot potato and never speak to them again . . . . I so wish it were possible.

That makes me want to throw up.

This isn't the first instance of this type of thing happenng. e.g. Stan Collymore carried on playing for England after he was witnessed publicly hitting Ulrika Jonsson in a bar in Paris; he may not have been charged/convicted (can't remember) but he admitted it because he did it in a bar full of witnesses. I remember the photos of her afterwards; her face was bruised and swollen, it was awful. Yet he wasn't suspended from the game.

I can't think of any other profession where someone would not lose their job if they were convicted of an offence such as rape or GBH (and certainly they wouldn't be hired if they had an offence like this on their record).

What the fuck is it about football that means a CONVICTED RAPIST is revered???????? Is it something to do with the herd mentality of the fans? Have studies been done on this?

Sorry about my lack of decent grammar, I'm so angry that I can't think straight.

Disgusting. Words beyond that fail me.

That's disgusting. I can only hope that it's a small group of disgraceful idiots and it won't actually happen. I don't want to believe that stadium full of men would cheer a convicted rapist.

Report
wem · 28/04/2012 12:59

Of course, it's bad enough that a single sickening moron has come up with the idea in the first place.

MrsMcEnroe · 28/04/2012 12:59

That game isn't being televised is it?

Report
MrsMcEnroe · 28/04/2012 13:01

Or if it is being televised, they will cut to the adverts if the clapping goes ahead won't they? That poor girl - roasted by 2 bastards, filmed by another bastard, and then the whole thing is applauded by thousands and thousands of other bastards.

Report
MrsMcEnroe · 28/04/2012 13:01

Excuse my use of the word "roasted," I'm quoting the DM article.

Report
MrsShitty · 28/04/2012 13:04

The managers need to stop the game if that happens. Immediately.

ToastofWar · 28/04/2012 13:05

Shock. WTAF, am gobsmacked.

Surely this is not about football, it's about some young men's attitudes to women. Having money and attraction Hmm does not make you a rapist.

Who is raising these young men to think this behaviour is acceptable, whether convict or these particular football supporters?

Report
ToastofWar · 28/04/2012 13:05

And when I say 'raising' I mean both parents, not just the mother.

I have to do something about this.

Do I email the MP for Sheffield? Or I was thinking of emailing the Sheffield local papers, news stations etc. Am I being very naive? These fans need shaming.

"We can only assume that, despite her intoxicated state, the girl?s decision to go back to the hotel constituted consent in the eyes of the jury."

this line just astounds me. despite her intoxicated state? despite? her intoxicated state is the very reason what both of those men did was rape! how on earth is it still acceptable in law to have sex with a person incapable of standing? FFS why is this so hard to grasp?

i would email sheffield united they shouldn't be allowing this to happen. i'm presuming the game wont be stopped for it? they should issue a statement at the start of the match that no silences or whatever are to be held during it. i hope they are planning on doing that anyway. i can't imagine tehy would want to be publicly connected with that sort of behavior (the silence for a rapist)

Have emailed the 6 Sheffield MP's and Sheffield united so far.

I found that completely shocking to read. I sincerely hope it doesn't happen. I'm not sure what can be done about it?????

Oh yes, I was also shocked to read that his girlfriend is sticking by him. They've been together 2 years. How long ago was the rape???
