First off - DISCLAIMER I don't mind if you give your baby purees, I just don't. And I am sure that there are some good HVs out there.

OK, so just been to baby clinic (mostly to get them to display some posters for Lulumama's baby day at Ormskirk hospital) and, guess what, she has dropped down the centiles.

So I got quizzed on how weaning is going, surprise that I wasn't giving her formula but still exclusively b/feeding.

Nearly pmsl, kept a straight face and asked 'Oh - I thought that bm had more calories than solids?' I was then instructed to feed her petit filou.

Everybody come and hold my hand please.

Sounds very out of touch....
How old is your dd and why do you think she's lost weight?

Report
NormaStanChocolateEggMuncher · 21/03/2007 15:41

She is 7 months, and she probably isn't putting on quite so much as she is soooo active. She has put on weight though, just not enough to stay on the same centile

And she does have solids by the way - steamed brocolli, carrots, pears, cheese, pita bread with philli, a slice of the roast, porridge in the mornings (though that mostly seems to go in her ears)

Petit fuckou? Twattish thing to give to babies, IMO.

I'd have said as much.

Tis like sprinkling sugar on their fresh wee gums.

No hunker - tis like sprinkling sugar on her two lovely teeth

I did point out the sugar thing too. She said " well there are some that are for babies". I said I would check the labels.

WHY are HVs obsessed with piling fatty/sugary things into babies who are CLEARLY perfectly well? No bloody wonder there's an obesity problem in this country! Children who are naturally likely to be slim have mothers who are hounded about their weight gain.

Mind you, mine had a thing about "vegetable purees" (and pronounced vegetable with more syllables than anybody ever known to man has uttered for that word). Because we all know how fattening carrots are...

It must be for babies, why else would they put it in such itty bitty pots?

My HV's are, on the whole, rather good, but there's a nursery nurse who hangs out with them, thinks everything should have a "knob of butter" mixed in. Bit of a post-war butter's off ration mentality, although she probably isn't that old.

Thinking about it, one of my friends was extolling the virtues and purity of Petit Filou only this week. Guess she hasn't read the label.

if its weight she is obsessed about then just tie you baby up so she isn't so active. there, killing 2 or 3 birds without petit fuckou.

The actual conversation was "what kind of foods does she have and how many meals", Me "too many different foods to list, you know, vege, fruit, bread, porridge, cheese, meat, about 3 times a day", "She needs full fat stuff you know", me "yes, I know, but aren't there more calories in b/m than solids anyway?"

HV "You could give her some yoghurt"
Me "Well when I have some stewed pear or something I will mix it in to some yoghurt, I don't want to give her sugary stuff"
HV "well you should give her petit filou then, or one of the other ones for babies"

Something like that

just nod and smile, nod and smile !

look, babylulu loves a yoghurt from time to time, especially if she is stripped down to her nappy and allowed to rub it in her hair...but it is not compulsory to give babies petit filous.....

I've just put Petit Filou through the babel fish translator. It comes out as Small Swindler, which has pretty much made my day.
