I have been following this on FB.

I can only think that it has gone this way because it is out of the UK.

The police ignore the illegal breeds in my area, until they kill or injure, which they have (John Paul Massey).

It's a terrible result, after such a long wait.

To be honest, I'm just thankful we're not lighting a candle for someone who was hurt as a result of the death threats and petrol soaked letters sent to Council employees. I'm in Belfast, this was not just one letter sent to an employee btw, although on another thread this seemed to be acceptable Hmm

Er no thanks.

Given the actual human tragedies that some MNers are facing at the minute I'll be thinking of them. Not lighting a candle for a dog.

And what wiggles said.

I'm with you op. Luckily I'm able to care about more than one thing at a time but I can understand it is a bit challenging for some

Rip poor lennox, and shame on bcc and their supporters

Birdsgottafly I'm not sure I've read you right but do you not think Belfast is in the UK? And I have to say the irony of this on 12th July is almost too much for my sense of humour Grin

i's a pit-bull not a bulldog...an illegal dog and, no, I won't be lighting a fucking candle.

No it's a dog.

FallenCaryatid · 12/07/2012 09:20

It's not an illegal dog? What are the grounds they are using for destroying it then?

Report
FallenCaryatid · 12/07/2012 09:22

So three different courts declared it an illegal breed.
There seems to have been a sustained campaign of harassment to a wide range of humans as well.

Fgs if you didn't want to light a candle fair enough, but the dog never attacked anyone, his papers said bulldog!
His family were not allowed to say goodbye or have his body-Something isn't right about that and if you take a moment to read up about it you will find he was also living in squalor.
I know there are tradgedies that are much worse, i do know that having suffered the loss of my 16yo bro to cancer and i have not compared Lennox's death or made it more superior.
I just have sympathy for Lennox, yes he may be a dog, but i happen to care a great deal about animals so i asked of people would consider lighting a candle but instead you take the piss because to you it is only a dog-To the family it was their PET
RIP Lennox x

The laws are different and so are the guidelines.

The way that the guidelines are acted on varies from LA to LA.

This applies to the police and justice system, as well as Social Care services.

Or to put it a better way, the way that the law is interpreted and some of Northen Ireland law is written differently.

I think this is very sad, but I don't understand the posters who come on here bitching about the fact that it's a dog. Sometimes I really think if you can't say anything nice don't post anything at all.

invoke on behalf of a dog most people don't know much about.

So while I understand that many people are angry and upset about what happened, I think this is the wrong way to ask people to show that here, sorry.

You should have posted in Doghouse.

Although you shouldn't need to be into pets to understand how wrong it is have a cherished object siezed, wrongly and destroyed.

Taking aside the fact that is a dog and would have suffered at the hands of the Council.

If the police make a mistake and break a possession of an alleged criminal, the victim is paid compensation for the upset caused.

This has just been allowed to happen and it was hoped without a fuss.

I'm a dog lover and I agree with LeBof. Sorry, I think the title of this thread is inappropriate.

But to some people animals are just as important as people. I always refer to my cats as 'my girls'.

No-one is forcing anyone to do this, and in my opinion it's not belittling the tragic loss of children that some mumsnetters have recently experienced. If you don't want to light a candle don't, simple really, but why come on here & express your disapproval? Just ignore thread & move on.

This was about the misuse of powers, as well as taking a pet off someone and killing it.

For that alone, people should be interested in the story.

I have been following this on fb too and i think it went on far too long (think of the costs to keep this dog in kennels whilst they decided his outcome?). I am a owner of a bull terrior and i love her to bits, my kids would be devistated if she was taken away but theres no way i would have put them through waiting to see if their pet would live or die (i would have given up the fight and moved on, how ever sad it would have been).

As others have said 'there are people that are lighting candles for their children', yes its sad that the poor dog was put to sleep but they can go and buy another dog and their kids will learn to love a new dog as much as they love lennox. Poor dog has been put through so much, at least now he's not suffering xx
