Are Birkenstock really worth £50?

I am desparate for shoes that do not murder my feet.

I am a childminder, so am on the go here and there most of the day (except when my two toddlers are sleeping as they are now..... )

But £50 (including postage) has to be EXTREMELY worth it for me.

Or any other suggestions????????

£50!! HAve they gone up?? That does seem a lot. I bought mine last year for £29.99. WOnder if the price rise is because of the Euro at the moment. I live in mine in the summer so probably would pay that and when I was pregnant they were just amazing.

They are very comfy and will last you a few years. Takes a few days to get used to them, but that's like any new shoes.

I buy mine at Costco for around £20.

£50 is very expensive, so I'd shop around. if you can't get them cheaper, buy them and your feet will be grateful.

I live in Birkies. Amazon has a good selection, a lot cheaper than £50.

I love then and wear them all the time in summer. I have 5 pairs. I usually get them from costco. However, QVC have loads and they are cheaper than £50
I have also just bought a pair of fit flops, they are £50 a pair and are comfy

That seems like loads! I have two pairs of Madrid that I spent £30 on each (think I bought them inSchuh)

Worth every penny of £30 in my opinion. One pair is about 4 years old, the other pair about 3 and I wear them constantly through the summer. They look pretty much good as new and are really comfortable. Before I bought them, I'd buy cheaper sandals which would only ever last a summer.

TK Maxx have them in sometimes I think, worth checking there!

I got some at costco for £18 this weekend. They're madrids. They also had Gizha ones for £23.

I'm sure you'd qualify for trade membership at Costco as a childminder if you have one near you?

I saw some in TXMaxx for £24.99 at the weekend if that helps

(the Madrid single strap ones)

My TKMaxx is doing loads of cheap Birkenstocks at the moment. I've always found hush puppies very comforable too

thanks, everyone. will look around.

the price I got was from the website, with postage and packaging for the Gizah style: just under £50

Costco is too far away, but I do have a local TKMaxx

thanks!

the last 2 pairs of shoes I bought (Clarks and Scholls) gave me awful blisters.

i have the 'Relax' style in silver, they are a little narrower but a similar style to the madrids. I got mine in TJ Hughes last yr for 319.99, they have them there this yr too.

of course i meant £19.99

they're well worth the money but don't wear the ones with the strap in the middle every day, I got a massive callous on my toe from wearing them every day for three months.

Have a look on amazon, I got some silver madrids for 22.99 last week and some red madrids for 14.99 a few weeks back. (free p and p).

I have a few 'Gizah' style. I love them, a bit too much! They are so comfortable and I think they look good.

Think they were only about £38 last pair I bought (last summer).

I love mine but find they take a short time to break in being being super comfortable. Have had my current pair for four years now and really need some new ones!

I meant Gizeh, of course.... and that was AFTER searching for them online!

thanks for all the leads, though. I definitely will be getting myself a pair.

Why would you pay £50 for them???

Just get yourself to TK Maxx

they are the most comfortable sandles I have ever worn and last forever I have some green ones that go with everything that I bought for when I was pregnant with my daughters 5 summers ago they were the only thing that would fit me by the end.
definitley search around for a better price.

I have only ever tried a pair of Birkenstocks in the shop and knew I just couldn't wear them, too hard on soles of feet.
In the last 2 years I have bought 2 pairs of Think! sandals from Shoon ( admittedly they are more expensive than £50), but I needed the first pair for walking in NYC in the heat of summer. Walked miles in them in great comfort.
Last years pair were much prettier in turquoise. Bit more strappy than first pair I bought.
They really are so comfortable and feel quite cushioned underfoot.

I love my birkinstocks, they're extremely comfy. As someone above said, they're a bit uncomfortable at first, but they mold to your feet after you wear them awhile. I would pay £50 if that's what they were going for, but shop around and you can definitely get them cheaper.

House of Fraser sell them for 29.99, really nice patent ones in loads of different colours. Love my Birkies, wear nothing else in summer

What about sizing? I have looked on Amazon and they offer 38 and 38 slim (???) Is that usual?

Report
BornToFolk · 26/05/2010 17:30

Yeah, their sizing seems to be normal and slim. My feet are really wide and the normal fits me fine so if your feet are at all narrow, you might want to go for slim
I wear a 40 normal but my feet are a size 8 usually.
