Never ask a child IF they need the loo... moodlum

Quote of the week

CaptainNancy's (admirably succinct) family rules: "Don't be a dingbat/duffer. Keep calm and carry on. Dream big. Shut up and get on with it."

Recipe of the week

Carmenere's cinder toffee: sweet, sticky, made-in-five-minutes toffee squares that'll spark off a few 'yums' among the 'oohs' and 'aahs' of your little fireworks-watchers.

So, at 5'4", I take it I'm too short for a Maxi dress?

I'm quite fat atm and I look good in a maxi dress. Guarenteed mummy tummy coverage. I think they are great- if you like them get one.

I have one on at the moment and am 5 foot 4. And I look lovely smile
After all this, I don't really know where to find one, anyway. I've seen some in Monsoon. Anywhere else?
I'm 5' 2 1/2" and curvy. A bit too curvy atm. I have one, just for occasional going out and I look good in it. I think it depends on the shape and pattern.
I might have a chance to go into town today, so I'll try one one and report back. I'm guessing it's going to be a big fat no, but you never know...

the point of them is to make one look elegant and elongated. solid proportioned people will always look like they are wearing a duvet cover.

got to be dainty if short. if you look good in a vest top then there is hope.

i think the key is to get one that isnt too puffy!

I'm 5' 3" and wear one and have been told I look good in it my my MIL who really really won't say that if I didn't

Try one on and bring a friend who will be honest (and you won't slap if she is!!)

I wear them and I am 5ft1..I am small (size 8) but curvy and busty. I think I look good

I think they suit people with small norks, so probably better for pear shapes... but I am short and just don't think they would suit me, but my 32F norks are not a good look in maxi dresses imho.
Saw some yummy mummies in the park earlier wearing them and they looked fab (they were only average height) envy

I would look like a sack of spuds in one

It's quite hard to find dresses with small prints and prints I think, that don't look too 1950s! and I don't mean 1950s in a cool retro way, i mean like you pulled out of a suitcase under somebody's bed.
Remembering back to the 70s when I was little, we had a friend who was a hippy type and quite small. She wore them and looked very lovely.

I'm the same height as you and I wear them. I think I look perfectly acceptable. I'm a size 10 if that makes any difference at all. Ones with enormous prints don't work on me, but otherwise they're fine.
it depends on your proportions. You need to try one on and see if it works in a full-length mirror.

I'm only five foot two, so you're going to think I'm very cheeky, but I don't think you should!!!

although sienna miller is also tiny and she carries it off, because she's so slim. so maybe maybe!

this style could work
But not if you have to have the bottom chopped off. Would spoil the look I think.
Nooo try them!
I'm 5ft 4" and slim and can't wear one.

But my Mum is 5ft 1", bigger than me and looks fab in them!
x-posts OrmIrian - I wasn't just being contrary.

Maybe I shouldn't try one on then...
Hmm, maybe I'll have to try one one then...
I often wonder how normal height people cope with some clothes. I'm 5'11" and I have bought dresses that reach the floor on me (not often - usually I'm lucky if they reach my shins hmm). But as I am a freak it makes me wonder that anyone bothers to design such long stuff when the majority of women reach my shoulders!

But to the OP, I wouldn't.
ooh I just remembered nbg wore a plain maxi dress last time I saw her, she's 5 3 and she looked FAB. She's lovely and slim though envy

I'm a fat fecker at 5 3.5 and would look a twat in a maxi dress

No your not. I'm 5 2 and am going to buy one for my hols and a festival. I've tried some on before and they looked great with some stappy wedges.

Well i tried one on and looked hilarious but am 5ft and about to have dc3 in 3 weeks - what on earth was i doing!

However my sister is 5ft 3 (the tall one of the family wink) and she looks fab in a maxi dress.

Think you need to try one on - it needs to be not massively floaty and you need wedges with it. And take someone who will give you an honest opinion.
legs fugly - hence desire for maxi dress coverage.

stilts?
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Wed 01-Jul-09 13:40:04
what are your legs like?
Yes you are

I think it depends on your frame/build as much as your height.

I'm 5.5 and can't wear them as they just look like lumpy tents.
No, unfortunately not very slim. sad Ah well, back to the drawing board.

Anyone got any suggestions for something to wear to a 40th birthday party?

Are you very slim? My curvy friend is about your height and would not be seen dead in one, but if you are very slim, I think you'd look fine.

(thank god I'm tall wink)
Yes

<<5'3..............>> grin
even if I have it shortened?
