God, I must be boredthis afternoon. It's all Cod's fault - got me thinking about school run dresses and skirts and summer....

Issue: I don't wear flowery summer skirts much 'cos I get COLD, also they seem so THIN sometimes.

Do I need a 'slip' - I have never owned one in my life - help!
Where from? What like?

I wear slips - mostly beacause things are too see through/too clingy/just need a bit of help to skim over my tum or thighs.

The M&S microfibre ones that they now call cool comfort are great.

Ah, I just wear Sturdy Pants.

I have an M&S microfibre slip - I barely take it off (doubles as a nightie, you know). Essential item of wardrobe kit imo - smooths out all the potentially clingy bits.

Slips are deffo needed for some dresses/skirts (especially with thighs like mine, not for general viewing even if that view is just because the light is shining thru at the wrong angle). M&S do a huge range.

No static issues these days Effie - much nicer feel than in Granny's day...

They REALLY do need to re-brand slips I think - they are IMHO essential for some skirts- nice smooth lines, none of that hoiking down when you stand up etc etc

So 'No snurks' ladies (says Snorks)

No static issues with microfibre slips Effie. They are not just any slip, they are anti-static slips.

I was starting to worry that I was the only woman under 85 wearing a slip.

I realised today that I used to go out wearing the short black microfibre slip as a dress. How my life has changed

Can we have a link to these wonderous slips then?

I got a couple of waist ones (think they are called 'half slips') from debenhams, but they are a bit crap and ride up and twist about.

why don't you ask on gransnet?

My mum wears slips!
But I can see how they'd help with lumpy bits I suppose.

Re the OP, no I dont. If I was cold I wouldn't wear a flimsy skirt.

Do they help with that thing when your skirt rides up when you walk and you have to keep pulling it down?

Noa Noa usually do silk slip dress with nice hemlines designed to be seen at the bottom of your skirt - they also do net underskirts, again designed to be seen underneath as part of a layered effect.

Alternatively you can buy summer design skirts made of thicker material to avoid the issue. I'm not mad on insubstantial skirts either!

I loathe slips, but their absence is too horrible for words. I teach, and it's sooo not okay to see women, of whatever age, showing their underwear through their dresses/skirts.

Now I think of it, I don't like to see it off-duty either.
