Going strong for more than 8 years! Full of great reviews, reports of empties and despair over our ever growing stashes!

I usually follow this thread but haven't posted. I accidentally lost my make up bag while on holiday. Its been great for trying new stuff to see what makes the grade to go in my new one.
Latest try has been Laura Mercier cavier eye sticks - they're fantastic, how I never tried them before I'll never know

Experiment627 · 15/07/2023 11:29

Nice to see you @dragonbreaths 👋🏼

Thank you for the new thread. I resisted the Liberty perfume kit as I'm working on using up the many many many that I have.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 15/07/2023 12:30

Checking in :) I've chucked the dregs of the nuxe suncream as I didn't even really like it on my body.

StarryNightAddict · 15/07/2023 13:09

Some empties

frank body clearing face wash didn’t like, too harsh for my skin. I kept using it as it was in the bath and I always forgot to take my cleanser from the shower in there 🤣

Frank body retinol I really liked this for a low dose retinol. I prefer the drunk elephant oil but from a price point FB was fine.

a couple of mecca cosmética sheet masks freebies in my shitty dud beauty loop box. Burned my skin off.

I also seriously failed my no buy July and splurged on a whole bunch of things I absolutely do not need.

Fraaahnces · 15/07/2023 20:31

Thanks for the new thread!!!
Welcome @dragonbreaths! I have heard those caviar sticks are lovely. Seems like a fab idea for a travel makeup bag. I would die if mine disappeared!

Only one bag?

I have backups- one in my main case (or if I have 2 cases, one in each) and one in my carry on.

Plus one in my drawer at work.

Not to mention the muji drawers in my wardrobe. That's the reason I hardly use anything up, as I use something different every day.

FiveShelties · 15/07/2023 23:20

Thank you for the lovely new thread @Experiment627

I have empties to report.

Mitcham Deodorant which I use all the time, lots more in the stash.
Wipes, found these in a drawer buried and with an expiry date of October 2019, they worked just fine.
Warm Neroli EDT, from M & S, I liked this and would repurchase if I did not have the odd perfume lurking.
Madre Bees Organic Vanilla Lip Balm, really good and lasted ages.
L'Occitane Comforting Cream, from an Amenity pack on one of my flights, loved it, sadly only a small tube.

Takes me to 54/96

I’ve infrequently posted before but read the last thread on holiday. I’m determined to post more to keep myself in check - also it’s such a nice thread Smile

I massively over purchased sunblock, insect repellent and bite relief again this year. Thankfully didn’t need the bite relief at all, just used the hydrocortisone. And brought back one unopened body sunblock, one unopened face sunblock and some opened things too. They won’t be cluttering up the house though as I pack them in the suitcases.

Finished two Perfume Parlour perfumes this month (I’m a recent convert) and trying not to buy any more. However the ones I have left are definitely heavier/more autumnal. We shall see…

Fraaahnces · 16/07/2023 04:29

I don’t trust anyone with my makeup so it all comes in my carry-on. (Including brushes). Hair & Body is more expendable so it gets checked. I have a small amount of travel skincare that I carry too. (Including freebie sachets for extra room.) I always take some sunscreen in the plane for day flights as radiation levels are so much higher in the sky. (Usually a stick, but sometimes I use a tinted sunscreen so 2-in-1) I think I have mastered the art of packing so that minimal liquids come with me.

Thanks for the new thread @Experiment627

Fraaahnces · 16/07/2023 04:57

I ordered some Clionadh eyeshadows to try and subtly shake up my current look. (Was my birthday the other week, so present from myself.) The shades are Chandelier (sheer mustard yellow base with small glitter particles that shift from turquoise-indigo-violet-pink. I am most excited for this one), Umbra (shifts blue/indigo/violet/pink) and Luminaire (shifts red/pink/gold).

You're all making me want to buy things! I have two beauty boxes sitting in my online basket and I'm sitting on my hands for a week already. Those are gorgeous @Fraaahnces .

KickAssAngel · 16/07/2023 05:07

I think I need to join this group. I'd have said that I'm low maintenance, but between hair, skin, make up, perfume, nail polish, contact lenses etc. I have about 10 drawers of stuff!

I hate throwing things out, so even have some really old things. I also am trying desperately to lose weight and turn back time on my face as it's looking so old. I wish my younger self had appreciated sun cream.

For the past 6 months I've stopped buying lunch, and instead I'm spending money on face treatments. I have lost weight but my skin still looks terrible. I don't know if anything really works.

Experiment627 · 16/07/2023 07:42

Welcome @KickAssAngel!!!

I have two empties to report:

  • Nivea protect & moisture SPF 30: not sure how old this is... I like the smell. But I buy higher SPF now (TBF think my mum bought this).
  • Cien Sun sport invisible sun spray SPF 50+: so handy with my 4 year old... he also had great fun spraying us! Was inexpensive so would defo RP.

At about 50, having never used sunscreen in my life, I noticed my decolletage was looking really leathery, it’s almost as exposed to the sun as my face but I’d never used anything on it. All I did was extend my facial skincare down to the dec (and started using a decent SPF) - it took a year or two to improve but now at 60 it looks pretty good. IT’S NEVER TOO LATE!

If you lost a lot of weight including from your face, it will affect your skin there. Try a multi-vitamin and/or skin-hair-nails supplement, and drink plenty of fluids. There are no instant fixes (cosmetic surgery aside) and it will take time, but your efforts will make a difference.

listsandbudgets · 16/07/2023 10:07

I think I might need this thread. Do I start by collecting up my stash, counting the items and taking a photo?

I dont use make up but have a lot of skin care, shower / bath stuff and perfumes lLberty's recent Scent With Love has seen to that!!

VanillaSpiceCandle · 16/07/2023 10:15

@Fraaahnces wow those Clionadh eyeshadows look incredible. Not heard of them before but now I want them. I mustn’t buy though because I just finished an Urban Decay Space Cowboy single eyeshadow on holiday last week. I bought it for my honeymoon ten years ago Shock I don’t use eyeshadow much and don’t go out too much any more but nearly always used this, when I did, so it was excellent value for money!

MavisMcMinty · 16/07/2023 10:19

I haven’t counted my stash, it’s just too huge. And I add to it all the time, I have some unopened boxes I’m saving for my birthday next weekend, probably another 100 products!

I give as much of it away as I can, the stuff I know I won’t use, but I suspect subconsciously I’m hoarding it for the INEVITABLE nuclear winter, to barter for food. I’ve read The Handmaid’s tale and seen/read enough WW2 films and books to know that women really miss their skincare and makeup during times of deprivation. I will be their saviour.

Fraaahnces · 16/07/2023 10:32

@VanillaSpiceCandle Space Cowboy was my all-time favourite eyeshadow. I haven’t been able to get it here. (Unwilling to pay Amazon prices.) It’s the most useful Nude sparkle ever! (Looks awesome patted over the top of black or chocolate brown too!) I dropped my last one on the tiled bathroom floor and cried. If you look at the Clionadh website, I should explain that they are an indie company that makes each shade in small batches. Their multichromes are the best in the biz! (I had a really long shopping list but whittled it down to three.) Just wanted to say that if you accidentally buy some, the glitter multichromes are the easiest to work with. (I have several 🙃)

Fraaahnces · 16/07/2023 10:34

@MavisMcMinty I donated several boxes of unopened skincare and makeup that could be sterilised to a shelter a police friend of mine suggested. They were so very grateful. Suspect I could do another few boxes again.

Peridot1 · 16/07/2023 10:34

I have never been sure if this thread would be good or bad for me! Am a skincare obsessive. I blame my mother. She was exactly the same. Although I think even she would be astounded at my stash. I can’t resist a Caroline Hirons kit. Well I think I may have resisted 2 or 3. Love a beauty advent calender. And some of the Cult Beauty Edits. And a good GWP. So I have way way way too much. Plus make up. Plus hair stuff. Plus body stuff.

And I’m saving up the Liberty Beauty drop for the advent calender this year - waves at @MavisMcMinty!

But I am determined not to buy any more. And to use up what I have. I’d actually really like to get to a place where I have a streamlined collection of things I know really suit my skin and I stick to that.
