Are boots supposed to be gappy these days? ?,

So, my trusty DM elena boots are sadly kaput. Dh gas got me some clarks marquette silk boots (can't link on phone ) they are quite ok but rather wide at the top - is this acceptable? ? I'm used to knee high boots being nearly skin tight such that there is no gap however I accept that this may a bit 1997 or something. I would say that there is a 1cm gap as I could slide my hand in .

Normally footwear has to just fit your foot, but boots that come more than a few inches up your leg should really come in a variety of widths.

If you want knee length, Clarks 'likeable me' are good - I have them in black and in tan.

Try Jones, their slim fit are great and I've always struggled with gapey boots!

They're wider now because people on average are wider, and the boots are made to fit the average person. It's vanity sizing.

I've tried on every pair may be an exaggeration of knee high boots in my city...

They are all gappy, wide and welly like. I've given up. I wanted a block heel too, not covered. I'm clearly asking for something that's not in style. I've bought ankle boots instead. Not as warm but cheaper!!

I have fairly slim calves and all my life knee-high boots have been gappy. A few years ago, I finally had two bespoke pairs made to fit my measurements. It was really worthwhile and I don't understand why more shops don't provide this option.

I used to like those ones that came above the knee at the front and were slightly lower st the back (so you could walk). I had a cool pair of purple suede with 4" heels that I wore with miniskirts and nude tights. Back in the 70s natch. Loved them.

This year I've bought calf length boots from Dune which were the best fit of the 100s I tried.

Duo boots (now known as ted and muffy) are the only place I've ever found that can fit my skinny calves. Previously, I had to use leg warmers and long socks for padding.

I feel that 'long' boots should NOT be gappy at the top, they're far more flattering if they're close fitting.

Boots that stop mid calf are a bit different, but something that resembles wellies is a no-no. Blueeyedwonder which Dune boots did you buy?

One solution is lace-up knee boots so you can adjust the fit. I have some that have laces and a zip, so you can get the fit right then just use the zip.

ZenNudist, I've bought these. Knee length with block heel. Haven't arrived yet so can't report on the gappiness but unlike to be on my fat calves

YES! I've got narrow feet and slim-ish legs I don't stand a chance.
Loads and loads of wide fit - no one does narrow fit. Even places like topshop who cater for the skinnier end of the market just do 'average' fit.

Me too to the point I'm thinking of setting up a company to do just that.

Get them made in Italy, different price bands.

It was ok when stretch boots and 60s slim fit boots were around - you had some hope. But currently - it's almost impossible.
